Manchester City defender Richard Dunne is set to leave the club this summer, according to Daily Star Sunday.

The City captain is rumoured to be interesting the likes of Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur and could be forced to quit City of Manchester Stadium in search of first team football.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a big part of the new City revolution, but now manager Mark Hughes is set to make a couple defensive signings over the summer, and the Irishman is reportedly on his way out of the club.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has always been a big fan of the central defender, and is keen to take him to White Hart Lane, but the 29-year-old would most likely act as cover to first choice defenders Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.

This means that his destination could be Fratton Park, where Portsmouth have expressed an interest in signing the Irish defender.

Dunne would almost certainly be guaranteed a starting place for Pompey, who reportedly tried to sign him during the January transfer window, but the deal never went through.

Hughes is said to be chasing highly-rated Everton defender Joleon Lescott, who would cost the City boss around £15 million.

Dunne has been at City of Manchester Stadium since moving from the Toffees in 2000, and has so far made 294 league appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.

Nah he's been on the decline for a while now, getting a older and slower now, just gets turned too easily and loses his man too much. Great at making last ditch, committed tackles, reads the game well and he'll give everything for the club, but he'll just make too many mistakes and lose him man too much for a club with our ambitions.
