Bergkamp was a pure genius, Henry isn't.

I wouldn't dare say one's better than the other because they're both true greats and have different strengths. But if you're judging on pure genius then Bergkamp wins hands down.
:tremble: What have you just said?! Henry, one of the best players of all time, was not genius?! Wow...What an amazing statement, from an Arsenal fan too. Incredible. I am absolutely baffled. So what you're trying to say is, because Henry was quick, that was his whole game, and none of the creativity, magical touches and dribbling skills were because he was a good player, it was because he was fast. Fcuk me, that's an awful statement, absolutely horrendous.

Still amazed...
Fucking idiot. Where did i say Henry is just pace? I didn't did i? Henry does have incredible skills too, i'm not denying that. But Bergkamp was a pure genius who would do things Henry would never even think of doing. That's not an insult to Henry, it's ultimate praise for Bergkamp.

P.S. Scholes you shouldn't even talk about Bergkamp because you were 4 years old when he oined Arsenal and therefore clearly haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement. Unlike DaG, i can't imagine you watching reruns of Arsenal games from the late 90's.
You did not just fucking call me that, it's only because you haven't pissed me off before that I'm gonna give you another chance to redeem yourself and apologise for just calling me an idiot.

You didn't say Henry was just pace, but stuff like ''Henry has better physical tools but on a technical level is inferior, and doesn't have the same footballing brain.'' means you are saying Henry is only level with Bergkamp because of physical attributes such as pace, when that totally isn't true. Even if Henry was as slow as Bergkamp he'd still be widely regarded as one of the best ever strikers, or #10's as he'd probably have changed roles, and his technical skill, clinical finishing, creativity and movement were enough to make a player like Roberto Baggio envious.

Henry was not technically inferior to Bergkamp, no way on this earth. Bergkamp can pull of amazing tricks, pieces of close control and such like, but Henry could always match it in a way which was equally or more effective.

It's not just about scoring, Bergkamp would set up midfield players.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Henry can do the same. Henry never focused solely on scoring, he was 50-50 scoring/creating. That makes his scoring record even more impressive. His obsessive father instilled that mentality at an early age.

I apologize for calling you a fucking idiot mate, but i still disagree with you whole heartedly. If Henry only had Bergkamp's pace and power then he'd be a much inferior player to Bergkamp.

You and DaG underrate Bergkamp something rotten it appears.

And DaG, if you ask Henry who he preferred playing with, Anelka or Bergkamp i think we all know the answer to that. The French national team is evidence of how Anelka nd Henry don't combine overly well.

I don't underrate Bergkamp at all, check my 'top 100 players ever' list for proof, but you're extremely underrating Henry and his genius ability...

Bergkamp is one of my favourite players of all time and I had the priviledge of watching his entire career as it unfolded. Henry was/is a fantastic player and I've never really compared the 2 as imo they are different players in terms of style.Henry's impact on a game is more obvious but Bergkamp had that something that's hard to articulate. He did things no other player at his time would dare to do.At club level Henry will get more plaudits but at international level Bergkamp was better (despite Henry's WC and Euro medals!).

I hate when people say that. Its as if Henry DIDN'T do things others wouldn't dare to do.

Henry did do some mind blowing things that others could only dream about but the 2 players had parts of their careers in slightly different eras.Henry's era was a time of great self expression where a striker got a lot more protection.Bergkamp pre 1999 for example had the same expression of genius but under greater pressure. You had to see the game being played weekly at the time to fully understand and appreciate Bergkamp's genius-watching re runs can make him look less than he actually was.

Thank you fella...excellent post. This thread has become an excellent one, and it sure has shown those of us who have been footie fans from time, and those who have not. It's not a dig at those not understanding how good Bergkamp was, rather, it's confirmation that one or 2 posters on here clearly either were not Arsenal supporters from 1996, or certainly didn't follow the prem.

I, personally would love to see Bergkamp fullfil a coaching role at Arsenal one day. He was not only DB10 on the pitch, but he has a love for Arsenal FC in his heart. He was a genuis, and I had the privilege of seeing him play a fair few times, and his testimonial (1st game at Emirates) against Ajax young and old (Cruyff and Van Basten came on late in the second half), will always be a fond memory, it was very touching. Anyone else there? All the t-shirts they had under our seats were XL  A great day.

A legend, as simple as that.

What a gay fucking post. I can hardly control how old I am, can I? Henry is a far superior player to Bergkamp. I think you guys wont admit it because he is black

Jeez that's a toughie.

Ok, only way I can call this is:

Bergkamp - Best technical ability and vision, able to create a goal from next to nothing
Shearer - Powerhouse and able to convert chances with the greatest of ease
RvN - The best fox in the box the prem has ever seen
