Haha made you look Manchester United Target Barcelona Keeper Victor Valdes The Red Devils again look for a long term successor to Van der Sar and the British press believe they've honed in on an unlikely target... Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly targeted Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar, according to The News of the World. The Red Devils boss is currently looking for a long term successor for the Dutch keeper, who is set to retire in the next couple of years, and Ferguson's attention has now turned on Valdes. The 27-year-old keeper has been the No. 1 choice at Camp Nou for the past few years, and has been at the club his entire career. If the United manager wishes to take him to Old Trafford it would take a very big offer for the Spanish keeper to move. Barcelona beat the Red Devils in the Champions League final last season, and picked up the domestic league and cup double. The Catalonia born player has been offered new contract with the Primera Division champions, but has rejected the deal, and is now holding out for higher wages. The Spanish keeper has stated that he wants the same high wage structure as the club's biggest stars, but the demands could lead to his exit from the club. United have been on the lookout for a keeper for sometime now, with Le Mans' Yohann Pele and Villarreal's Diego Lopez thought to be high on Ferguson's list of potential signings Valdes is a good GK but not a great one |

In La Liga he rarely gets tested because Barca have so much of the ball but in the premierleague you get tested much more especially aerially and I can imagine him making mistakes against the likes of Bolton and Wigan. |

I think he will get the job done. Last season United had the best defence, leaving VDS rarely needing to make any 'big' saves. So providing the defence stays the same I don't think signing a world class keeper is necessary. |

I saw the thread title and was ready to say fvck right off whoever it was, but was taken by surprise at Valdes. I can see why United would want him - he's better than both VDS and Foster - but by the same token the reason Barca would even consider selling is so they can purchase a better goalkeeper of their own - something that United too, should be doing, as there are plenty out there better than Frankenstein. I doubt Valdes would want to leave though, he wants to remain about Barca - despite being a mug over contractual issues. |
![]() Winner. "If I go to Anfield and someone puts the ball into the box and Carragher hammers it out of play the fans applaud. At Camp Nou you would never be applauded for that." - Xavi | |
