Yeah that £26m was absolutely no consolation for Everton, whatever happened to them ater they sold Rooney? Everton 2003/04 with Wayne Rooney: 17th place escaping relegation Everton 2004/05 without Wayne Rooney: 4th and Champions League football. |

Everton were and up and down side back then so it means very little to be honest. Also Rooney joined on the last day of August so Everton had no chance of spending any of the money. |

So even without replacing their best player, they made a metoric rise from 17th to 4th! Also it's true they were an up and down team, but once they sold their best player, they became a consistent team. 2000/01 - 16th 2001/02 - 15th 2002/03 - 7th 2003/04 - 17th 2004/05 - 4th 2005/06 - 11th 2006/07 - 6th 2007/08 - 5th 2008/09 - 5th Just goes to show that even if you lose your best player, things can move forwards. This is because one player doesn't make a team and Ronaldo is not Man Utd, our team will continue to challenge at the level required. |

Everton have always been based on team ethic and team spirit thats why they dont rely on individual players but this stat says everything 2003/04 - 17th 2004/05 - 4th 2005/06 - 11th Man Utd dont have that cohesion that Everton have and like Martin Samuel said in his article when Juve lost the best player they then started to decline slowly but im not saying that is anywhere near the case at Man Utd. Man Utd will be the team to beat next season and rightly so but without wonderboy there will be many games in which you will struggle in and as a result you will lose points which means you will fail as a result.

You're just unbelievable Homer, you really are. "This stat says everything" ![]() Okay let me put it like this. Everton in Rooney's days, okay he wasn't quite around in 2001/02, but nonetheless. 2001/02 - 15th 2002/03 - 7th 2003/04 - 17th Everton in Rooney's last season and then without Rooney. 2003/04 - 17th 2004/05 - 4th 2005/06 - 11th Everton after Rooney. 2004/05 - 4th 2005/06 - 11th 2006/07 - 6th 2007/08 - 5th 2008/09 - 5th Okay so in Rooney's days at the club they were truly an up and down club: 15th, 7th, 17th is very up and down, defintely, as the fact that the season after they finished 7th, they almost got relegated! Including Rooneys' last season which concluded in a shocking 17th place finish, Everton had a fantastic season finishing 4th and qualifying for the CL, the following season however it wasn't so easy but they only missed out on securing a top 10 finish by 1 point to Wigan, up and down yes but not quite as bad as when their "best player" was at the club. Now onto Everton without Rooney: An impressive 4th place finish followed by an 11th place and then top 6 finishes all the way since then, not so much up and down, but up and down and up and up. Just admit what everyone already knows, losing your best player does weaken your team on paper but things can often change for the better. You say we don't have as good team ethic as Everton, well why do you say that? We have a very good team ethic and they all work brilliantly with each other, the defence is rock solid, our midfield has some hard working and solid players in it. To suggest we don't have great cohesion in our team is just preposterous, it's a joke, plain and simple. I also mentioned before about when Arsenal lost Henry, your best player by a mile and much more important to your team operating than Ronaldo is to ours and don't even dare suggest that you had a better team ethic and cohesion to our curernt side because that would be just pure lies. How did Arsenal do after the main man left? 4th and 20 points behind the champions to 3rd and just 4 points behind the champions. You see Homer, just because you lose your best player does not mean you will move backwards, often it signals a move forwards. Who says that our team works together at it's maximum with Ronaldo anyways, do we have 11 players working perfectly together? Ronaldo's lack of tracking back makes us weak on the right hand side, but who knows, we might get a player in that works more on that and makes us stronger defensively on the right whilst still providing a good or potentially great threat attacking-wise. Thus enabling our team to work better as a unit! We will be short a match-winner who can score a goal out of nothing but let's wait and see who we sign because he might just be a match-winner himself or he might develop into one. |

The idea that we can find a "direct replacement" for the best player in the world is totally unrealistic. Hence, we need to use the money to improve as many positions in the first eleven, as well as the squad as a whole, as possible, and hope that the extra quality provided by 2/3 players adds up to the individual quality of one, Ronaldo. Even a few percent extra quality in one or two positions is enough to make a real difference. For example, we are weak in the centre of the park where we lack a world-class midfielder and our striker force will look depleted come next season, with the departures of Tevez and Ronaldo. And why not another world-class GK next summer? A world-class keeper could save United 9 points, minimum, a season. I also believe that we already have players at our disposal. Take Nani for example all the talent, all the natural ability all he needs to do is apply it to a great effect...He has the potential, I know he's been lauded about as "Ronaldo II" but I honestly feel next season will be a make or break season for United. The same goes for the two Serbian lads, both of them have shown great sparks of genius from youtube clips but from "credible" sources they are the future of United. We've got to look out our youth now instead of mulling over losing Ronaldo...I have faith in Fergie because he knows what's best for Manchester United Football Club...whether or not we sign a World-class player (s) there will be a valid reason behind it...Beckham went...RVN went...Ronaldo goes...United stays! |

Completely agree with Homer on this one, i'm not bold enough to say that Man U will be a worse team next season, but the fact is is that they will need to spend all that money they paid for him to properly replace him. The last couple of years Man U have looked utterly toothless without Ronaldo. Homer provided cold, hard facts, and as i've said before, you can't argue with facts |

We did batter Arsenal 4-0 without Ronaldo and had Nani in fine form, we weren't toothless that day, to quote Homer; we were like angry snapping crocodiles, just an example of what COULD happen. |

Wish i hadn't said that last part now ![]() Seriously though, it seemed a lot harder for United to break teams down most of the time without Ronaldo. Nani fro 3 games a season does what Ronaldo does non-stop all season |

That Fa Cup game proved nothing ManYou because most of the team were injured and to be honest we had bigger fry to stir at the time so if it was a league game I would have said you have a point. You're not just losing a player in Ronaldo you lose so much more but if you think you will be better off without him well then good luck with that. |

im going to be controversial and say nani has the "potential" to be as good or even better than ronaldo. ok he wont be as great in the air or as prolific in front of goal but as a winger nani could go on to emulate figo. what he lacks is the mentality but hopefully with the burden of ronaldo lifted we will see a more liberated nani. |

What'd you think of him, Homer? I personally think he'll become a World-class winger but never as good as Ronaldo |
