I swear to god if we get him I will be so happy.

As a winger Ribery>Ronaldo IMO and then we need to get a striker who that is I don't know but I'd rather have Ribery and the chance to buy a striker than Ronaldo. No lies.
Definately, that's why I've feared United selling Ronaldo, 'cos you'll be so much stronger without CR7 if Fergie gets it right. Now I'm just praying Fergie slips up and signs Valencia and Santa Cruz

Who knows Ronaldo leaving might be sort of a weight off Nani's shoulders and he might pick up a little. I still want Ribery though he's been my dream signing for a long time now, it feels like it could now end up a reality.

it still hasnt sunk in...£80m

plus the £30m already available, with that we could get:
Benzema £30m
Ribery £40-50m (bayern arent stupid they will jack their prices up)
+ a goal scoring midfielder with the £20-30m left over

that would significantly improve our team.

Everyone has forgotten something here...that Man Utd needed at least some of that £80m to pay off some of the capital off from their loans, as right now they are paying off the interest only. So don't assume automatically that United have £80m to spend, as they don't.

Saying that I'm sure Ribery will come.

the club makes too much money a year (i think they're the most profiting club in the world at the moment as well) to worry about that debt

the club has a bigger fanbase than most countries have citizens.

i've just got back from the america's and the United brand is everywhere. They're as big as the Yankies if not bigger.

I have that fear too Moe. Ronaldo got sold for £80m so Ribery is worth at least £60m is what Bayrn will say. I just hope we get him as I said he's the only winger who can come in and be as good or better than Ronaldo is in the position, Messi can too but he's not going anywhere. Ribery is the man, a wonderfully talented player, very intelligent and lots of energy.

FERGIE SIGN RIBERY, I WANT HIM!!! DON'T LET HIM SLIP THROUGH YOUR FINGERS, GRRRRR

Ant is right about what he's saying, but a few of you have a narrow-minded approach to this transfer.

United have won 3 titles in a row, reached two CL finals in a row, and have competed on all fronts until April, give or take, in three successive seasons.

Ronaldo was a huge part of that, but Ronaldo leaving could be the change we need to keep te squad highly motivated and desperate for more success. Ronaldo leaving will cast many many doubts over United's credentials, and for me this could well aid the team. Cristiano Ronaldo is huge and his departure will inspire the squad to prove everyone what they're made of, I'm sure of it. The team ethic and spirit will be upped a notch or two. It's a must that Rio Ferdinand stays fit, he is the leader of this great team.

This signals the chance for Wayne Rooney to reach new heights. We have now instantly become more reliant on him and I have faith in this man to produce the goods. Ronaldo's goals will be tough to replace, but an attack-minded midfield player and a winger, hopefully Ribery, will compensate for his loss in this area.

Whilst rival fans will celebrate this move, it could actually have a positive effect on the club, and in Fergie and United I trust :)

As for La Liga, it's become a lot more interesting now with Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc. all playing in the same league, and perhaps will trigger success in next season's Champions League.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

They did indeed register a larger profit than any other club, but take a look through the BBC financial section and you will see their debt is increasing and that profit is in the main ploughed back into paying off the interest repayments on what was $900m...and with the pound having taken a battering, it's hit everyone hard.

The Glazers have been looking to tighten their spending somewhat. And as for SS saying Fergie has the whole lot, I'm sure the Man Utd accountants aren't aware of that statement.

I'm not sure how many of you look at the financial side of things, however, the pound has lost almost a 3rd of it's value over the last 9 months, hitting businesses (including football clubs) hard. Lenders are more reluctant to re-finance, the pound has lost it's strength against the Euro AND dollar. In actual fact it means that clubs like Barca and Real Madrid are better off buying from England right now, based on the strength of the Euro.

I know it's all adult stuff, but football after all is a business, and right now unless you have rich owners, clubs are more cautious in the Premiership as to how much they spend.
