Cantona was more of an influence on Utd than Ronaldo, how can anyone seriously suggest otherwise, come on FFS!
Bullshit and you know it!
we were being written off when cantona left, such was his impact, and on a team which hadnt won a title in 26 years, ronaldo will be a massive loss, but not more than eric was

Maybe so but stats wise Ronaldo is ahead of everyone
But what I'm saying Homer is replacing Ronaldo is more or less just about replacing the penetration on the wing and the goalscoring if we can do that well that's 90% of Ronaldo replaced. With someone like Cantona or Keane leaving that leaves a bigger hole a much deeper whole throughout the whole club, it's like cutting the heart out of Man Utd and let me tell you, Ronaldo is not the heart and soul of our club, he's our weapon and weapons can be replaced much easier. Granted Ronaldo is so good that he has to be replaced with 2 top players but we can get those players.
Keane was 35 when he left and he was passed it

Man Utd are a completely different team without Ronaldo because without him you aren't just losing weapons but you also lose pace and power that he brings to the team. When he played us in the CL semi's he destroyed us with his pace and power :tremble: so there is not one player in the United side who can bring that to the table and when you play counter attacking football it is Ronaldo and Rooney who make all the difference. If you bought in Ribery and Villa I would be saying ok Ronaldo is no big miss but the reality is you wont be getting them and to be honest I cant see Fergie buying any star names to replace Ronnie because most of the money will be to pay off the debt. You will probably buy Valencia and Huntelaar but Ronaldo>Valencia and Tevez>Huntelaar.

80m = Ribery and Villa = PL Champions again. Don't know why everybody is so delighted tbh, he is the best player in the world but I'd rather have 80m and acquire 2 world class players with the desire to play for the club and determination to improve.
Top post Ant, everyone needs to wait and see how fergie spends the money before deciding whether it's good or bad for united. Ribery and Villa/Benzema would arguably make us stronger

Let's not write off our chances of buying these players. United have never been great at securing their targets but wait and see. The fact of the matter is, we've just sold Ronaldo for 80M, so large activity is the least we can expect.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Cantona was the biggest influence we have lost, I will tell you I was not only worried but I was scared when he retired. I didn't know how we'd get through it but after conceding the title to Arsenal which was understandable after such a massive loss, we won the treble the season after. Since then, I have never got into such a state of worry over a player leaving, for one I have never yet seen a player who brought us so much ablity and influence as Cantona, when Beckham left I was concerned but we got back on track eventually. I'm not even that worried Ronaldo going, I'm excited at who we can bring in, we couldn't be in a better position, we have just come off the back of THREE successive titles and for anyone to suggest that Ronaldo is the one and only reason we win stuff is just dellusional.

We need to replace a weapon, I'd be more worried if we sold Rooney because he's more of a part of the club on many different levels. Ronaldo is a weapon that's it.

It's already been stated that fergie will get all of the fee to spend on replacements, plus he already had 30m+ to spend anyway with manucho and cambells fees as well

don't think Man U fans should be worried

even without Ronaldo they're still better than Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with a lot of these posts saying Ronaldo is only a weapon, he was a fucking monstrous player who you are all seemingly taking for granted now. He carried you to the title in 07/08 and was the biggest factor in you winning the title this year, without him you will have to find a whole new balance and style of play, you no longer have a 'go-to' man, you no longer possess the counter attacking qualities that you did have with him in the side, and you will now struggle for goals a lot more unless you become a more one dimensional side like you were with RVN in the side.

I really am in two minds as to whether you will spend the money correctly and whether you will succeed next season. Unless you bring in 2 world class players I don't think you'll work as well next season and I think you are now vulnerable to succumb your PL title...

You are a very optimistic person ManYou but to say you are not worried at the prospect of losing your best player is a bit silly really because I dont even need to explain how important he is to the side. He is more than just a weapon and deep down you know it because you're not just losing a quality footballer here you are losing a player who changes the dymanic in which United play and he is basically the only player in the United side who has blistering pace so unless you buy top level players then you will be almost fucked basically because you cannot lose players like Tevez and Ronaldo and then still expect to be top dog because it just doesn't work like that. Im sure you are expecting big players to arrive but im not so sure myself.

Says who? Real are now going to have to sell before they buy as sources at the club have confirmed, they have also stated they aren't prepared to pay to much for villa. Ribery wants to leave Bayern, real won't be buying him now and i'm not sure barca can afford him, personally i think he'd come to old trafford the opportunity to replace ronaldo is a massive one. I think villa could be convinced to join, united are a massive club don't forget
