I still think Barca are Ribery's prefered option, and we definitely have the war chest to get him, so I wouldn't get too hopeful United fans - especially seeing as Ribery has announced he doesn't want to play in England. :D

Winner.

I remember in 95 we sold Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis and everybody said we couldn't cope with losing them from our team but we did. Then when Cantona left everybody said we were finished but we weren't. We sold Beckham and would never be the same but we got better. We lost Keane and couldn't replace him but we evolved and came back just as strong. Anybody who thinks we can't cope without Ronaldo should look at the history. Fergie always bring us back stronger. Do not write us off because Ronaldo has left otherwise you will end up with egg on your face again.
Nobody is writing Man Utd off...well I'm not anyway. However, losing the best player on the planet will hurt any team, and all those players you mentioned were, although extremely well talented, nonetheless not on the same level or anywhere near the level of Ronaldo.

You could tell by the body language last season that Ronaldo was not 100% focused at times, yet he still scored more goals than any of your other players. His influence will be missed, and time will tell if you manage to fill such a large and influentual void left in the wake of his departure.

We have seen players from other European leagues excel (Torres for example), yet many others flop (Veron, Forlan, Schevchenko etc)...so nothing is guaranteed.

I must admit I don't like Man Utd, naturally because of the rivalry, and I hope your team suffer, yet only time will tell.

You sold Beckham and didn't win the title for 3 years...
It just took us a while to get better

Cantona was more of an influence on Utd than Ronaldo, how can anyone seriously suggest otherwise, come on FFS!

This was always on the cards, I'm just surprised it never happened last season. Didn't RM agree to pay him something in the region of Ł26m if they never signed him this summer?.
Yep that's true fella.

Bayern president has come out and said that 45m is only enough for Ribery's arm and leg so ye that tells you everything. Man Utd have recovered from setbacks before but this is an entirely new scenario because never before have United lost a player so young and so important as Ronaldo.

Cantona was sheer class, but Ronaldo had more of an impact, culminating in the best season for a premiership player since the league began. So you 'come on' :hysterics:

Cantona didn't score anywhere near as many goals, he was like Bergkamp...created goals and assists out of literally nothing...great players...but not the best.

But what I'm saying Homer is replacing Ronaldo is more or less just about replacing the penetration on the wing and the goalscoring if we can do that well that's 90% of Ronaldo replaced. With someone like Cantona or Keane leaving that leaves a bigger hole a much deeper whole throughout the whole club, it's like cutting the heart out of Man Utd and let me tell you, Ronaldo is not the heart and soul of our club, he's our weapon and weapons can be replaced much easier. Granted Ronaldo is so good that he has to be replaced with 2 top players but we can get those players.

We lost Cantona - our best player at the time and our playmaker.
We lost RVN - the scorer of most our goals.
We lost Beckham - set piece taker and assist leader.
We lost Keane - our best at the time, our captain and our ball winner.
We lost Hughes, ince and Kanchelskis at once - CM, RM and CF.

We don't need to replace him like for like but just evolve the team/squad again. I think its partially wishful thinking that we will not cope. It may take a year or so but im confident. I even said 2 weeks ago that i would be very surprised if we won the league next year.

We lost Keane and RvN in a matter of months and those two left a bigger hole than Ronaldo is likely to leave and we won the title in the next season! Just goes to show that it's not impossible, we are already champions which is what's the difference and we are losing ONE PLAYER, I don't care how good Ronaldo is but that doesn't mean we are automatically going to struggle. FFS a couple of players here and there and we will still be absolutely formidable opponents and serious title challengers.

80m = Ribery and Villa = PL Champions again. Don't know why everybody is so delighted tbh, he is the best player in the world but I'd rather have 80m and acquire 2 world class players with the desire to play for the club and determination to improve.
Top post Ant, everyone needs to wait and see how fergie spends the money before deciding whether it's good or bad for united. Ribery and Villa/Benzema would arguably make us stronger
