homer, what you wrote about united is ridiculous.80m is a fantastic deal.we could get ribery, benzema and a cm with that money.united will be a lot stronger and a lot of the players will make the step up and help us win more trophies in the next few seasons

Great post Homer. We are doomed. There's no way we can get over a loss of our best player

If you dont get Ribery you will be much weaker

Like I said before Ribery has no interest in moving to England and fans who think Man Utd are going to blow all that money on huge players are kidding themselves.

I remember in 95 we sold Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis and everybody said we couldn't cope with losing them from our team but we did. Then when Cantona left everybody said we were finished but we weren't. We sold Beckham and would never be the same but we got better. We lost Keane and couldn't replace him but we evolved and came back just as strong. Anybody who thinks we can't cope without Ronaldo should look at the history. Fergie always bring us back stronger. Do not write us off because Ronaldo has left otherwise you will end up with egg on your face again.

I will never write you off but things were different back in 95 because the level of competition and physical demands are so much greater these days and you will have to replace Ronaldo and Tevez with quality plauyers which is easier said then done. Man Utd will always be in the top 3 but for a demanding successful club like United this just isn't enough.

You missed out Van the Man Stu :)

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

This was always on the cards, I'm just surprised it never happened last season. Didn't RM agree to pay him something in the region of £26m if they never signed him this summer?.

great post

but i think this is a big pshychological blow to the club, with all the players you have mentioned people could argue that they werent as influential or had past their peak. with ronaldo that isnt the case, there was not failing out with the manager it was just a player wanting to leave to go to (in his mind) a better club.

and i fear homer might be right, saf and united arent known for buying loads of star names but i personally think we will just to restore our reputation and brand image not to mention trying to recoup the lost merchandise sales.

You sold Beckham and didn't win the title for 3 years...

Winner.

For the number crunchers at Old Trafford, the move makes some headway towards paying down the club's £650m worth of debt, which is currently the second-highest in the Premier League, after Chelsea.

You will be paying off debt before you buy and like I said before you will be losing millions in advertisement and shirt sales.

In all fairness, Ronaldo now is more important and miles better than Beckham was in 2003, but I think we can recover, pending on how we use this money.

It all depends on whether Fergie spends the money correctly. If you sign Valencia and Santa Cruz and don't get any more world class stars you'll be pushed to stay in the top 4...
