His movement is spectaular, his finishing when confident and liberated is excellant, he's creative, influential and looks like a genuinelly world class player (the player who burst into action at Euro 2004).

Fergie, Berbatov is a classy player but Rooney is soooooooooooooooooooooo much better in the 2nd striker role than him.

agreed

berbatov would be a much better player if he played in the position he did at spurs, let the midfield dictate the game.

Rooney just looks unstoppable for England and potentially a rival for best player in the world. Fergie is wasting him, because playing like this (liberated) could make him a more valuble player than Ronaldo.

I would still try and keep Berbatov as the second striker because he hs a better touch and doesn't lose the ball when he's crowded around. Rooney also seems to be more able to sniff out chances as proved by his runs to score both his goals tonight, if we had an out and out striker, we would have the option to alternate between Berbatov and Rooney as the 2nd striker, if not I think Berbatov just shades it but Rooney is the better goalscorer. It would be nice if we signed a real goal poacher and then we would have more options up front I have to say.

Hasn't Rooney been playing as the furthest forward in most games working off knockdowns from Heskey/Crouch or having Gerrard in behind him like Torres does at Liverpool? Anyways, I wouldn't read too much into two great performances against Kazakhstan and Andorra, let's see what he's like against real quality players who know how to deny him the space to work in.

Exactly. It's all well and good wanking over his performances against Andorra and Kazakstan, but he has weaknesses. He is not good in tight areas and only really operates in space. He is able to play the main striker's role because he has good finishing ability and can poach goals.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

not being funny, but my nan could have looked world class in the second stirker role againt the oppsotion he was up against tonight. not saying it wouldnt be good, im just saying lets see how influential his performance is against a team that actually turns up, then pass judgement

He has potential to score goals and I think he should be encouraged to play up top more often because he has developed his finishing and ability to sniff out chances and making the right movement in the box, he will always roam around and will have the chance to do some work in the SS position but he has made strides in the goalscoring aspect of his game, I think he should continue with it by playing as the more advanced of our forwards, if it's not Ronaldo.

He's quite capable of scoring 25+ goals in all comps if he can get consistent in this role. I think we need to get something more from our midfielders too, I think thy are part of the reason why one or both of our strikers come so deep for the ball, a bit more penetration from that area would make a difference.
