Legend is not a word I like to use lightly, but I'm almost certain he'll retire a national team legend.

51 apps and 22 goals to his name and he is yet to turn 24. I'm not sure what the all-time leading goalscorer chart looks like but Rooney will probably reach top spot at some point, he is a monster for England and is able to perform consistently for his country.

Thoughts?

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Which players would you say are England legends already? That might help in evaluating this conundrum

Winner.

For attackers, Beckham and Owen from my era.

Think Bobby Chalton is top scorer with 49 and Lineker just behind him on 48, you never know if Rooney will break that record, it seemed a question of when and not if Owen would break it but now it looks a lost cause really so it just goes to show that it's not a formality for Rooney.

Top Goalscorer: depends on how long the squad stays built around him really. At the moment he's scoring goals for fun as he's being played in his best position, but who knows. Capello may decide Theo is the way forward and change the system or something...although based on last night's performance, I doubt he will!

It's all good and well doing it against Kazakhstan but who cares about breaking records until he starts putting goals away against the big teams in tournaments.

Spot on.

That's not to say Rooney won't though.

Wayne Rooney has been our most important player since the age 0f 18 so I believe he will become a England legend.
