Just look how shit the GK's and defenders are though, it's like watching me play against 10 year old kids and saying look at the magic that lad produces, takes on the whole defence and scores... He obviously does look class, and if you put him in today's game he'd still be a great striker, but he's no R9, and not worthy of the complete wankathon he recieves from the media brainwashed public... |

How do you think someone like Romario - a sublime finisher and one of the best strikers ever - would fare nowadays? I'm not sure how much defending has progressed of late, but I'm thinking a bit within the 10 year gap. Are strikers that stand out in todays game far better comparatively to the old greats of Puskas, Stefano, Pele etc than most would like to think? I'm with you Ant on this one, I think the older generations get an easy press right now, but, then, I don't really know how we can then judge inter-generational talent. Thoughts? Spot on. Romario is nothing on Ronaldo either. |

No one is close to R9. Had he not been subject to injuries, he would be regarded as the best player ever. Unfortunately, he can only claim to be the best striker ever. |

PES labels him an AMF or a SS. I go with what they say. |

For me yeah, obviously it's subjective and any number of players can be given that label and my view might be slightly blurred by nostalgia; regardless, the bloke was a phenomenon. The best I've ever seen (at his peak) was Ronaldinho, closely followed by Henry and Zidane. |

My list: 1. Maradona 2. Zidane 3. R9 The next 10 or so could feature in any of those 10 places, so I'm going to avoid controversy and not write them down. |

I was too young to see Zidane and R9 at their best

No, muggins, that's why he didn't feature in my "best at their peak" list. |

Ah, that wasn't clear to me from your post given that you had said Zidane was one of the best you've seen at peak, but then said you were too young to see Zidane at his peak.... |
