I have quickly collected some stats for some of the best strikers of their generation, comparing each of their best goalscoring seasons. Stats were unavailable for the likes of Vieri, Batistuta, Romario etc.

Ronaldo - 49 apps. 47 goals - (Barcelona)
RVN - 52 apps. 44 goals - (Man United)
Henry - 51 apps. 39 goals - (Arsenal)
Roy Makaay - 54 apps. 39 goals - (Deportivo)
Shearer - 48 apps. 37 goals - (Blackburn)
Eto’o - 48 apps. 34 goals - (Barcelona)
Shevchenko - 51 apps. 34 goals - (AC Milan)
Del Piero - 47 apps. 32 goals - (Juventus)
Raul - 48 apps. 31 goals - (Real Madrid)
Inzaghi - 49 apps. 30 goals - (AC Milan)

Whose are most impressive? Whose flatter to deceive? Discuss.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Batistuta 32 apps 26 goals in 95...With the strength of Serie A that's a sublime record.

Obvious Ronaldo's is immense there, he was truly taking the world by storm at this point. A lot of these records won't be as good as they look, as players like Inzaghi and Raul are tap in merchants and their success depends on how successful their side was. Henry's stands out the most other than Ronaldo's which is in a world of it's own, as I know Henry scored magical goals, got a hell of a lot of assists that season too, whilst making a general impact on the whole of the side.

Roy Makaay's and Alan Shearer's are sensational, both playing for lesser clubs.

RVN's of 02/03 was out of this world. 8 of the 44 were penalties but let's not forget that he won 75% of them. He was on another planet that season.

Luca Toni - 31 goals in 38 Serie A matches, no stats for Europe/domestic comps though that season...

Totti - 32 goals in 50 apps, 06/07.
Drogba - 33 goals in 60 apps.

Luca Toni's was incomparable to the rest, as were Totti's and Drogba's. Totti wasn't much more than goals that season.

Shearer and Makaay for lesser clubs lol, lets remember Blackburn won the league in that season, and Deportivo were a top 4 club back in the days of Makaay.

Quite frankly, no. He's a top class player, world class for many years. Underrated by the majority just because he's a flashy player who's only played in Italy, and because he's rated very highly by many...

That's more to the point, you don't like him. A lot of people let who he is cloud their footballing opinion on him. I quite like his personality in football, aggressive and showing fight personally, but classy and technical on the ball.

40 apps and 34 goals

although he played in the old first division with newcastle the season, just realised wikipedia has the old second division as the first division for some reason.

He has carried Atletico; so much more integral to their team than Aguero it's unreal. Its a shame he's blooming so lately; i saw highlights of United - Arsenal (when Wiltord scored THAT winner) and Forlan was just horrific, he's a completely different player now. Wonderful off the ball movement, great finisher and very good aerially. Incidentally he makes Aguero look a lot better than he is.

Winner.
