Keane was a mistake

The others though had to be sold after a while to buy new players. Its a matter of working your way to the top.

Yo9u cant expect them to spend big straight away , so we had to sign a team of good but not brillaint players, success doesnt happen over night, squads have to be built and benitez has done it brillaint

Difference is Man utd can afford to buy 20m on players just to sit on the bench but Liverpool cant even afford 20m for a first team player(apart from Torres)

Or is it because benitez made mistakes in the transfer market, because if it was fergie signing those players that's exactly what you'd be saying

His mistakes have tended to be low bracket signings

and fergie has been building his team for 20 years so its no surprise really, it would be a disgrace if anyone BUT united won it

It took Fergie over 7 years to win his first title and Rafa has almost done it in 5 with a weaker team than Fergie had and with the league being far more competitive these days.

Boring.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Haha.. This has to be the silliest argument Liverpool fans could have come up with. Rafa has spent more than SAF since he came, the difference is that SAF tends to spend money on a few big-name players, which is why Utd's spending is always in the news, whereas Rafa has bought and sold loads of players who were never good enough to be in the PL.

Yes, SAF had a good side to work with, but he has had to replace the likes of Schemeichal, Cantona, Keane, Ruud, Yorke, Cole etc., which is a tough enough job as it is. He has made some awful blunders along the way as well (Veron, Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba), but on the whole , while not the best in the world at it , Fergie has been streets ahead of Rafa in terms of the quality of players brought in.

"Rafa's signings have been in the low-cost bracket"
Pricisely. That is the problem. You spend 10 million each on 5 sub-standard players, you waste 50 million, or you spend 30m on Veron. Which is the bigger individual mistake ? Veron. But what hurts your finances more ?
The fact that his failures have been the low cost signings have just saved him from the public glare, but Rafa's transfer deals have not been upto par with Europe's better managers.
When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
