Well done Gerrard. Goes withut saying that there hasn't been a standout candidate like in previous seasons, if it were up to me I'd have it like this:

1. Vidic (Most consistent player in the league and it's not even debatable)
2. Gerrard (His best season when he's been playing)
3. Rooney (His best season, has showed more of his top form than usual)

Pretty simple really, I don't know how Vidic didn't win it tbh.

Is there a young FW Award? Ireland must have won it if so...

Vidic isn't really dirty, he's just tougher than most others and is an honest professional, no bitching about from him, he just gets on with it.

No idea if there is or not. I'd back Ireland for it too but Young has been very good this season also.

It was between Gerrard and Vidic.

Rollingstone is so far off the mark it's unreal. Gerrard has always been an overrated player but this season has been by far his best, and it's difficult to complain about him winning this award. His overall game has improved a lot and his ball-use has been fine.

He has been good all season despite what some people say and even before February he was in the running for it...

Vidic has been simply sensational this season and perhaps should've won it, and although Gerrard hasn't been as good as previous winners of this award (Ronaldo, Lampard, Henry etc.), him winning this isn't a travesty.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Great post Scholes. How some people have got it into their heads that Gerrard was somehow not that good before Christmas is beyond me.

Rollingstone's narrow minded views on this matter stem from a combination of blind hatred and ignorance - not having witnessed much of Gerrard live this season apart from in an England shirt. There's no point holding it against him or arguing about it.

Winner.

Everyone said after Giggs got the PFA players award that it is the Writers award that matters

and now its been announced, you cant take it.. fvck you all
the writers one is the worst of the two by a mile, the pfa see's players vote, the writers, some know nothing journalists who spend the season writing shite vote, no comparrison, however gerrard did deserve an award for his contribution in keeping liverpool alive in the title race

I would be far more pleased with having won the Writer's award. Firstly, the timing and the voting system in the player's one is shit; secondly, the players are more than likely thicker than the journalists.

You just have to look at the two winners to see which is the more credible award.

Even if the journalists are poor and maybe the players aren't too bright either but the fact that the Writer's award gets decided leter on in the season means it's more credible in some ways. PFA decided in February is a bit of a joke tbh.

Usually they both match (in PL era anyways) and they usually both get it right IMO.

Some United fans are so greedy, have to win it all and spit the dummy if they don't. Just wait until it all comes crashing down, this type will be jumping ship pronto.

Like Manyou said, the timing of the writers awars automatically makes it more credible. This year they are much closer to the mark than the PFA thats for sure. I cant argue against Gerrard getting the award as he has had a great season. Vidic imo pushes him close though and trying to put bias to one side its a very hard decision for me to make.
