The controversial decisions made by Tom Henning Ovrebo on that fateful night in London have left bad tastes in many a mouth, but a week after the game that turned into a circus, the Norwegian referee has spoken to the press. The Guardian has reported the referee as being highly motivated to continue a career in officiating football matches, refusing to let 'one little incident' hamper his love for the beautiful game, even if last week's antics were anything but. "I won't comment on what has happened since Wednesday," began Ovrebo. "My focus is now on my coming matches in Norway and the future. But since this happened I have been noticed more in the street and people are pointing." After several missed penalty claims, a dodgy red card, a police escort back to Norway, and copious amounts of bad press, the 42-year-old still remains adamant that his affection for football has not been soured. "Why do I like football? Why shouldn't I? It's always been part of my life since I was seven — I was playing football since that age so it's hard to stop liking it because of one incident," he continued. Ovrebo went on to talk about how his second profession as a psychologist helps him to keep on top of things during matches. "Of course there's a lot of psychology in refereeing and of course its [about] man-management, things like this. And it's also important to know of stress-management," the ref went on. The Norwegian was asked finally if he would continue being a referee long into the future. "That's hard to tell, but at the moment I'm still very motivated," he concluded. |

He tried his best so there's no point blaming him. Hopefully his reputation isn't completely tarnished. |

He properly felt that it was ball to hand and he wanted to be careful not giving away a pen unless he was 100% certain. |

It was ball to hand, but because it denied a one-on-one, and not a chance to meet a cross, it should be given...... Love how understanding you are of this bloke but not anyone who gives decisions you don't like Ah well, I'm off cya

He made some terrible mistakes that are noticed more so because of the high profile game they occured in and the fact that a team from the most media driven country in European football was on the receiving end of the injustice. I really hope he continues as a ref and he isn't forced out of the game due to stupid fans with their death threats, like the brilliant Anders Frisk was. Also his treatment because he's Norwegian and "doesn't referee 'big games' often" according to some is appalling Anders Frisk was IMO Europe's best referee and he was also Scandanavian but that didn't stop him. |
