ANDREY ARSHAVIN says he is ‘baffled’ by Arsene Wenger’s decision to play him in midfield.

The 27-year-old Russian has been a massive hit at Arsenal since his move from Zenit St Petersburg back in January.

Yet he admits he expected to be playing up front for the Gunners, not on the left wing.

He said: “The target for my first three months here was not to score a certain number of goals but to discover whether I could play in England or not.

“Sometimes I feel I can do well here but other times I don’t — and that’s probably because I am playing as a left midfielder.

“I still can’t get used to the idea that I am capable of playing there and, frankly, having to do it keeps me baffled.

“I don’t know if I can play so well as a left winger or if it is just God taking care of me.”

This boy is immense.
The best buy of the season - or maybe ever for Arsenal? Huge respect for the lad, scores when he gets the chance and always sets up a goal when he can.

I personally think though, left wing is his place. He'd be amazing upfront no doubt but with their current forwards.. he would always be a left winger in my books.

Arsenal Legend Ian Wright: Arsene Wenger Out Of Touch With Gunners Fans

The former striker believes Arsene Wenger needs to address various areas in the transfer market this summer.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger watches on helplessly as his side capitulate against Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final, second-leg blockbuster

Arsenal hero Ian Wright, who scored 185 goals in seven seasons for the Gunners, believes Arsene Wenger is losing touch with the desires and ambitions of the supporters.

Wright feels the north London club are yet to replace the voids left by talismanic striker Thierry Henry, the formidable and imposing Patrick Vieira and the safe-hands of David Seaman guarding goal.

Wright also questioned Wenger's tactical nuance, claiming pacey forward Theo Walcott would be best fielded down the middle as opposed to on the flank.

"The Gunners manager is without doubt one of the best of all time but I am now beginning to wonder whether he is still in tune with the Arsenal fans," Wright told The Sun.

"Why hasn’t he replaced Thierry Henry? Why hasn’t he found someone to fill the huge gap left by Patrick Vieira? Why haven’t Arsenal had a top-quality keeper since David Seaman hung up his gloves?

"And why doesn’t he play Theo Walcott straight down the middle as the natural goal-scorer Arsenal desperately need?

"It all adds up to yet another season of huge disappointment, a fourth consecutive campaign without a trophy — you have to go back to 1982-86 to equal that frightening sequence."

Arsenal are slowly drifting to a team like Everton at the minute, if it continues they could see their best players gone and finishing even more dissapointing in future seasons.

Winner.

I meant they'll finish in such a place that Everton always do, mid-table and not doing anything special all season.

Exactly. Watch them splash the cash, and crash and burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

But Wenger does need to replace the players that leave. Like Ian Wright says, Henry, Viera, Seaman, Where are their replacements? Not replacing them has made the team fall back a few years.

I've noticed a couple of times Arshavin isn't comfortable on the left wing, but it's somehing he'll adapt to. Pires had the same problem when he first joined, and look at the career he had on the LW. He'll be fine there

Arshavin should be used properly if you want to see the best of him.

I think over time he will learn to adapt to the position and become one of the best around.

Were you in a coma last season?

I think Arsenal had to sell Henry, his poor performances in the 06/07 season combined with his want to move to a bigger club forced Wenger's hand. And how do you replace him with £16m? Well, to be honest, you can't - unless you get extremely lucky.

It the same story really for Vieira; he was just so good that he is quite literally irreplaceable, Essien is the only modern day player who comes close and Chelsea outbid everyone in order to get him.

No, I don't believe that the lack of adequately replacing these players is the problem, as direct replacements were not necessarily needed, but Wenger has not strengthened the whole side well enough in the last few years. Despite Wright's claims that they miss the presence of a top goalkeeper, and top midfielder and a top striker, what's the area they need to address most? Central Defence.

Says it all really.

I dont want him to adapt to something because he will never show his best qualities at LW. Wenger is just so clueless.
