I dunno why people were/are going on about Alves. His was a booking and it completely irrelevent compared to Fletcher and Abidal, as they were both wrongly dismissed.

Yes but erm, what goes for one surely goes for another. If Alves's booking was illegitimate, he would have the same right to get it recinded as the other two.

Because the whole principle of being banned for a final is wrong in my opinion; you have to get 5 yellows to be banned in the Premier League, and that's in a 38 game season, so why the sheep is it only 3 yellow cards in the CL? Do they want people to miss games?

I don't think it's wrong. I think if people are rightfully suspended then so be it. But when it's unfair like it was for Fletcher and Abidal it should be sorted out.

And i agree it should be 5 not 3.

The record should be wiped after group stages (which I think it is), and after the quarters to make it more lenient.

Bringing this down to a 'do they want people to miss games' argument is a bit ridiculous to be honest as you have to have some sort of punishment in place for those who play dirty. Quite often though, a player will accumulate a couple of bookings throughout the competition that aren't fair, and so may get a ban as a result, which is why UEFA need to impose the system mentioned above so as to decrease the chances of such unfair decisions having a negative outcome.

The whole penal framework needs looking at if you ask me, the season has highlighted some serious moral flaws in the system.

In principle though, for this season i would agree with you, Alves - under current laws - should have had no chance with any appeal.

@ Elcule.

5 yellows for 28 games, not 38.

And there are a maximum of 13 games in Europe, and getting 3 yellows is indiscipline, and encourages players to be cautious.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Is 3 yellows in 13 games really bad though? 1 yellow in 4 and a bit game aint too bad imo. 4 maybe would be a better idea.

Yeah typo

Encourages players to be cautious? This is the highest level of football possible with some of the best players on the planet - many of whom actively try to get other players booked through various machiavellian methods. You can't help getting booked sometimes, particualrly when there is so much at stake in this competition. To only allow players to get three yellow cards is criminal.

You can easily get a yellow in the group stage then you can get a yellow in the knockout stages and then you can get 1 in the semi's so ye it is bad.

Yeah. Very easily. But at the same time i think 5 might be too many. I think 4 would be best.
