Yes actually, the Italians are as good as they are defending because of the way they're brought up and educated. It is a culture to Italians much like samba football is to Brazilians, you cannot deny that samba football is a culture, much like the Italian culture of defending, it's drilled into them through their environment and surroundings.

That is true, but they were taught at a young age, and Vidic joined United aged 24...

I have watched United's defenders closely, and the way they press high up the field, they way they pressure opponents and close them down is brilliant. I remember one time seeing Vidic running accross the 18 yard box and notice he was stepping inside it, so he stepped out again and looked embaressed, like he'd made a vital error. They're just brainwashed into defending in a certain way, and I don't think Vidic would be regarded so highly if he moved to Italy, where defending is slightly different.

Haha, look at you trying to make out it's a great observation, when really you watched Lee Dixon point it out on MOTD :bait: :hysterics:  But yes, we have moulded Vidic into what he is today, but let's not take anything away from him, as he has learnt the tricks of the trade, as well as having incredible physical strength, aerial ability, courage, agility, timing of tackles etc. - You can't fucking teach that, as they say.
Yeah it was MOTD wasn't it lol. It was so long ago I couldn't remember where I saw it, but I definately wasn't trying to steal Dixon's glory lol.

Combine United's defensive culture and Arsenal's attacking culture and you have the greatest club of all time that would dominate the league for a decade.

In terms of talent ferdinand is the best defender, the thing with him is the bigger the stage and opponent the better he plays. In terms of this season vidic has been the best, probably terry second although he isn't much better injury wise than ferdinand.

I certainly don't think it's time to start talking about chellani in the same breath as those 3, undoubtedly a big talent but hasn't proved hiself at their level yet

Good post Roonaldo; Chiellini has faced two truly top quality sides. In one he kept a clean sheet and was probably man of the match, though in the games against Chelsea he was solid enough, but made some silly errors.

Winner.

Chiellini has not put a foot wrong in any big game this season, Europe and Serie A. It's people's ignorance and elitist attitude that is preventing Chiellini from being top dog, if he played for United alongside Vidic for instance he'd be rated ahead of Vidic and would be tagged the best in the world, I guarantee you of that.

So playing Drogba and Lampard onside in the first leg, and getting stupidly sent off in the second leg isn't 'putting a foot wrong'?

I'm not being elitist mate, like I said he was very good against Spain in the Euros, but he simply hasn't had enough experience yet of huge games to be tagged alongside Vidic and Terry; that's nothing to do with lack of ability, he's just unproven.

Vidic got destroyed vs Liverpool this year, and players like Terry get sent off a lot. When it comes down to it, this kid performs in the big games, he's kept Ibra quiet in both Juve-Inter games this season. Talent wise he's better than Rio and Carvalho, who are both similar players. The only thing that will get him recogntion in England is a move to England, maybe Spain.
