I don't know where your getting all this rubbish about big stars coming in. Why would the top players just sacrifice CL football for the City project? I just can't see it happening, footballers might not be particularly clever but they aren't all like Robinho- namely willing to destroy their careers. |

I wouldn't say a move to City is necessarily destroying a player's career Seven. Such as Aguero, Forlan, Maxi, Cassano, Palombo, De Rossi, Gonzalo Rodriguez are all looking likely to be at UEFA Cup teams in much the same postion as City next season. Sure, these players aren't necessarily World Stars, but could form the basis of a very strong side. If City can attract these calibre of players in the early summer, then perhaps the bigger names will be tempted. City will only be going upwards imo and therefore it is a great chance for players with little success in the short term to convert that in to sustained title challenges - something which i firmly believe City are building towards. To touch on rollingstone's point about a great manager being a prerequisite for success, I'm not sure i agree. Sure, you need someone who can control the ego's, but stating that Chelsea's success was largely down to Mourinho rather than the money they recieved is wrong. Ranieri's Chelsea came second in their first season - a vast improvement on anything Chelsea had ever achieved in the Premiership Years - and it was the small matter of an invincible Arsenal side preventing them winning the title. Mourinho never got further than Ranieri did in Europe (with Chelsea) and remember that he already had the basis of his side (Cech, Terry, Gallas, Lampard, Cole, Duff) given to him before he arrived on the scene and spent even more money. Who's to say that Ranieri wouldn't have achieved similar success? What I'm saying is, if City stick with Hughes and buy a load of big names, I still believe their chances of success will still be high. |

Spot on. Most of this lot are just jealous and fearful. A move to City for any player not in the CL is a move upwards, they'd be coming to the world's strongest league, getting a lot of exposure, and potentially pushing on for titles within a few years. That's more than they'll get at a club like Roma or Atleti for instance. |
