The Brazilian international forward believes the Citizens will purchase the players needed to compete for top honours over the summer... Robinho is confident that Manchester City will mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season. The Brazilian international was the first major signing following the Abu Dhabi United Group's takeover on transfer deadline day last summer. The £32.5 million signing from Spanish giants Real Madrid expects City's owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to splash the cash on players needed to bring silverware to Eastlands. The versatile forward was speaking ahead of Sunday's derby against Manchester United, a club he hopes the Citizens will emulate in terms of success. "I admit I am a little envious of United's success, but that is only normal," Robinho is quoted as saying by The Sun. "But I intend to help change all that and I think that City will fight for the title next season. I am convinced things will change. "Historically City are one of the great English clubs, we need to be top of the table and I am sure the owners' objective is to buy a super team this summer. "It's up to the owners but from what I hear there has been some interesting contact with superstars." |

Robinho knows. He knows the inside goss, and big stars will come in. If our away form is as good as our home form next season we'll be title challengers... |

No I don't think City will really challenge for at least two more seasons, I think it'll be three but with the resources they have it might well be two seasons. You can't build a team that will become great and capable of challenging Utd and Chelsea who are at such a high level. Maybe City will show some promise next season but I don't think they'll do much better than Spurs and Everton have done in recent times. They might show more quality but they won't be a team that will win 8 games on the trot at least twice a season in the next year or two. |

I think you could challenge for the top 4 with the right signings but i think it will 3-4 years before you can even think about winning the league. |

That's exactly what City should be aiming for. One step at a time. They're not going to get onto Utd and Chelsea's level in a season, even if they sign a shitload of stars, they still need time for all those players to gel and all those egos to get along. |

Even if it's somewhat close we'll be pushing top 4... Our away form this season... P17, won 2, drawn 5, lost 10. Change that to ... p17, won 7, drawn 5, lost 5 That's a realistic away record, and something we could easily achieve. Now that's 20 points extra, and 20 points extra in today's league would put us on 67 points, one behind Arsenal. It is nowhere near impossible, it's not even unlikely... |

Is it just a question of attracting some big names to the club though? Cast your minds back a few years to the season when Abramovich starting squirting cash around for Chelsea, buying some big names like Crespo etc. Chelsea did well that year, but it was only when Mourinho took the helm that success really started to happen. The right players normally need the right manager to shepherd them and guide the club to success. I don't think Hughes is this man at present, but that's not to say he won't become it. |

If I'm not mistaken thats an extra 15 points, leaving you 6 points behind Arsenal. |
