Great post there Elcule, i agree that in our generation there haven't been many, if ANY, striker's with better movement then Eto'o.

I've gone with the great but not elite tag. Only 3 striker's i've seen are elite in my book: Henry, Ronaldo & Romario. Those players were just so much more then goalscorers. For me Eto'o is in the group underneath that with Shearer, Batistuta & RVN
Maybe I've underrated Romario - I haven't seen him much tbh, most of my opinion on him is based on hearsay, but at least half of his career (including the European Cup win) was pre-1992/3 season.
My opinion of Romario being an absolute legend was made because i was lucky enough to have WC 94 video passed down to me from my Brother when i was a youngun.

Like i say, you're post was world-class, made me re-think how good a career Eto'o really has been. Looking back on it, he was an unbelieveable player, 05-06 he was just brilliant

Eto'o is not underrated, he is not one of the 5 best strikers of this generation, end of. KOL you overrate Romario way too much. He was a natural finisher, but NOWHERE near Henry and R9...

I know you've said that Henry, Ronaldo and RVN were better than him, but surely these gems have a case:

Bergkamp, Weah, Baggio.

Can't really disagree with your essay as I haven't seen anywhere near the amount of Barca games you have. I've always got the impression that he's borderline world class and that there has always been a couple of other strikers who have had better seasons than him - mainly from what I hear you say!
Baggio and Bergy yes, Weah no.
I am soft.

I went absolutely mental when i saw this go in.

Rolling my man, how are we? Baggio was evidently more talented than Eto'o, but again he's another who enjoyed his peak pre-'92, also remember that he spent a lot of time out with crippling injuries which prevented his career achieving his full potential.

And I'd say he's better than Bergkamp and Weah, especailly as a striker, a name I wouldn't really give to the former, who I'd describe as more of a creative hub than a goalscorer.

Winner.

I have perfectly good reason to believe Romario is up there with Ronaldo & Henry, he has a down-right good case to say that he's actually better then Ronaldo. Anyway, this thread has nothing to do with Romario, take it up with me in the Draft discussion

Now, back to Eto'o.......................................

Bergy isn't a striker really, when striker's are mentioned i think of players who's main job it is to score goals, Bergkamp doesn't really fit there, neither does Baggio really

Like i said, this isn't a Ronaldo vs. Romario debate, i have my reasons, but i do believe Romario has a case to say he's better. Go and ressurect the Draft discussion thread or start a new thread or PM me if you want to carry this on

Baggio was a second striker, that's striker enough for me. Just because he liked to lie deep occasionally and was extremely talented and gifted, does not mean he is a Bergkamp-esque playmaker.

Elcule - that goal was absolutely sick , the best thing is he did it form the right hand side too! :worship:

Rollingstone, the nearest thing to Vieri I can think of in teh modern game is Toni - ie, decent, useful finisher, not world class :deepthought:

I'd rather not, I don't want you to make me feel physically sick. Romario was nowhere near better than R9, it's like comparing Eduardo to Henry, it's just not even comprehendable. Now don't bring this up again as I've got a weak stomache...

Bergkamp was a prolific scorer in his Ajax days as well as at Arsenal in his first couple seasons. But he reinvented himself after Wenger came, and with all the brilliant runners he had extended his career.
I am soft.
