Holy fucking shit. I've just spent 15-20 minutes reading this thread. At first I thought it would be a 7 page slanging match but to be fair it wasn't too bad :wipeee:

Right, the points I'd like to make/correct:

Homer you dopey twat  Bergkamp's penalty miss was in an FA Cup replay, the first semi-final game finished 0-0 and that is what Roonaldo referred to.

Rollingstone...Iniesta and Xavi are easily identified...Iniesta wears yellow boots..

As for the actual thread, I can only comment on my life-time and:

United 98/99 is the greatest season in terms of achievement ever, and even if Barca win the treble this season, the drama will not be on-par :cooldude:

Great teams:

Invincibles:

Fantastic achievement going a season unbeaten, underlining the real mental strength that side had. They were however knocked out of the CL 1/4s to Chelsea (Lampard scored) and the FA Cup semi to United (Scholes scored), so despite playing truly marvellous football, they didn't have as much to show for it as they would've liked.

Chelsea 04-05:

95 fucking points...I hated this team, absolutely detested them, and was so unhappy and envious of what they did, and how they did it (££££££££). But, they had an aura of invincibility about them. Yes they didn't go unbeaten, but they ONLY lost 1 game in the league, and drew 8 (4 less than Arsenal), whilst keeping 25 clean sheets. They cannot have 'unbeaten' attributed to them but it was a fine margin lads...they were also unlucky in the CL semis. A real team to fear.

United Treble season:

Remarkable achievement, and whilst we may not have amassed an amazing points total, we did only lose 3 league games, and one Worthington Cup game, going undefeated in Europe, beating Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan in incredible style, whilst avoiding defeat to Munich and Barca in the knock-out stages. The attitude of this team was Godly.

Barcelona 05-06:

League and CL double, great football, Ronaldinho, enough said.

United 07-08:

Same as Barca 06, CL and PL double, remarkable.

Madrid early noughties:

One of their CL winning seasons with Zidane, Carlos, Raul, Ronaldo, Figo etc.

United 06/07:

You may consider this a strange choice, but after what was a barron spell for United, we responded in some style. We really did play great football that season, amassing 89 PL points (one less than Arsenal invincibles), leading the CL semi-final on agg. against AC Milan, and losing the FA Cup final to Chelsea. I will never forget that season, it was truly special :)

And whilst on the subject, I don't think some people realise the history United are making, and the achievements of this current United side. 06/07, 07/08, 08/09. That's 3 consecutive seasons, and in each of them, the TREBLE was still on in late March/early April...that is remarkable consistency whichever way you look at it. It really is.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

The United team of 99 accomplished the most but there's no way they played the most beautiful football. And it's beautiful footballing teams that get remembered.

We did play great football though, and it's not just beautiful football that gets remembered. The manner in which we achieved what we did is a focal point in football history. It was the type of season you could not write, and I don't like that phrase, but it's true.

In my opinion united of 99 played football that was as good as the invincibles, but they had more to show for it

No he wasn't. Cole's movement off the ball and finishing was brilliant.

That Chelsea teamof 04 to 06 doesn't get enough credit. They were absolutely exceptional, i remember every weekend it was almost as if winning was a formality for them. Not as Trophy filled as Man U 1998-01 & 06-present, not as star-studded as Madrid 00-03, not as exciting or entertaining as Arsenal 01-04, but more dominant and consistent then any of those sides, and in there own right just as good as any of those sides

Cole's finishing was brilliant  Did you generate that opinion from highlights you've watched?

And as for this current Barca side...until they win the CL they cannot be mentioned.
And yet the United 06/07 side does get a mention???

We're still on for a treble and it's May! We're going to win the league, we're in the domestic cup final (like United were) and in the CL Semi's playing the second leg away having battered our quarter final opponenets (like United were).

You cannot state one without the other, particularly due to their remarkable similarities as yet.

Winner.
