Over the years there is a select group of striker you could label "super strikers." Although players like RVN, Sheva, Batistuta, Wrighty, etc were elite players in their day, players like Van Basten, Romario, Ronaldo, and Henry were in that other level; truly super strikers. There is a player I think can reach those heights, and his name is Alexandre Pato. He was inconsistent after a hot start to his Milan career and I wasn't sure if he would hit the heights predicted. But this season he is blossoming. His skill set is fucking scary. Electric pace, I mean truly electirc and he is just as fast with the ball. Even more importantly, he gets to top speed very quickly. Lethal finisher with both feet, and very good in the air too. Brazilian, so of course he has the trickery, but the thing that sets him apart is his aggression and fearlessness. Whenever he gets the ball he immediately looks to attack players. He will be the best striker in the world in 2 seasons in my opinion, but he might even get to that level next season. Scary thing is, he is still quite raw in terms of positioning and game understanding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo07FotOAIs |

He looks like something very special. I've been mainly restricted to watching highlights of him, but i saw him play against Arsenal last season and you could see he was going to be something HUGE. Can't wait to see him in the CL next year. Very, very similar to Luis Ronaldo with his acceleration on the ball

Haven't watched much of him but seen a few goals he's scored and he took them very well indeed, looks like he just breezes past players aswell. I'll have to watch a bit more of him before I'll say whether he's gonna be as good as you think he will. Btw I did laugh at that first line: Players like RvN, Sheva, Batistuta erm... Wrighty! He wasn't on their level although despite what you think. Was a great goalscorer in the PL but done nothing in Europe or at International level. Note that I'm not saying he was a bad player about as good as Andy Cole/Dwight Yorke but when compared with Batistuta, RvN and Shevchenko........ well you can't compare them is what I'm trying to say. |

Yes, you absolutely can. Check the goal scoring records at club level. |

In all fairness DaG, i think would be a lot more realistic to put Shearer or Eto'o above Wrighty. Anyway let's keep this debate away from this thread and stick to talking about a possible legend in the making |

Agreed Etoo may be in that super striker bracket. Edited by DaGunners, May 2 2009, 12:09 AM.

Back onto Pato... This guy is amazing; he just seems to have everything at such an early age. All this talk of Federico Macheda after 2 goals whilst in Serie A this is going on. Ridiculous. |

I'd say it's pretty even with Wright's goal record and Andy Cole's. Although granted, the Arsenal man scored a greater variety of goals. I'd say Ian Wright is about as good as Yorke but with a goal record more on Cole's level. |

I think Pato and Aguero look very talented but obviously need to mature a bit as players, Higuain doesn't look quite on their level as far as talent goes but he looks like he's becoming a very accomplished goalscorer. |

Wright was a brilliant player but Shearer dicks all over him- striking phenomenon. Benzema can be the next super striker as well for me. |

He will be very good but he won't be a super striker I don't think. Has taken a step back this season, although that has a lot to do with coaching. ManYou, Wrighty's record at Arsenal pisses on Cole at United. |

Can Rooney still be considered young. I think he's 24 now. Messi is 3 years younger...... |
