The special players like Henry, Vieira, Ronaldo, Zidane, etc could define and dictate.

Explain Vieira.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

This also may be a superficial distinction as if a player dictates a games, does he not too define it in the process?

Vieira was a dictator and only a dictator, but would almost never define it. Luis Ronaldo was a definer and only a definer. It doesn't mean that there not as good as Bergkamp etc. but to be able to do both like Bergkamp means you're clearly a player out of the ordinary

Completely destroying midfields on your own up and down the country week in week out is definitely defining.

Or it means you can't do both of them as well as a pure definer can define or a pure dictator can dictate. I'd rather have one brilliant definer and one brilliant dictator than 2 players who were top class at both (assuming topclass is the level below brilliant).

Messi does both - in La Liga anyway.

Bergkamp was a class act, he is one of those players who absolutely did both.

He's Zidane without the CL goal and WC winners medal. A video compilation of his moments of magic is IMO probably better than one of Zidane's.

Underrated. One of the very best I've seen, in terms of ability and class he's top 3 without a doubt.

I loved Riquelme when he was at Villarreal because everything they did was through him and without him they were only half the team.

I don't think Henry is an example of a dictator, he was a definer of utter genius but not so much a dictator. Bergkamp combined the two better for me.

Henry, to a large extent, dictated the way the Arsenal invincibles played -on the counter. The same can be said for the opposition who were petrified of playing a high defensive line due to his pace, they therefore sat a lot deeper and this influenced the amount of space Arsenal's midfielders were afforded.

You don't just have to sit in the middle of the park sprayng passes around to dictate a game.
