Doesn't make it a penalty. :)
having seen it on tv, i think it WAS a pen, carrick got first touch, the keeper did get a hand on it after carrick BUT also took carrick out, if in play, a player makes contact with a player even though he played the ball first, its a free kick, so in the area its a pen
Diego for christ sake, don't set yourself up...it was NOT a penalty. Carrick made a good run but he timed his touch awfully, Gomes read it, and made a fantastic save.

Seriously mate, not a penalty in a million years. Gomes got ball before player.

Winner.

I would rather of Palacios been sent off for breaking that twats legs and united winning 600-0, then palacios staying on the pitch and united winning 5-2

im not setting myself up, its a game of opinion, and my opinion is that would have been a free kick in open play, thus a penalty in the area, ive seen pens given a keepers sent off for much less

Obviously it would of been a free kick outside the area coz your not allowed to touch the ball with your hands outside the area

not the point i was making, he made contact with carricks legs, making it impossible for carrick to stay on his feet to regain possession of the ball

Lol @Phil.

How would it be a free-kick outside the area Diego? If you get ball before player it's a fair tackle! Gomes' momentum was always going to halt Carrick, but he got a solid touch on the ball...comon mate, it's a basic rule, so let's no debate it.

The POINT of this thread was to outline how the stupidity in focusing on the penalty incident, when Palacios' horrific lunge goes untouched upon.

Carrick was not in POSSESSION of the ball when taken out Diego. The ball went sideways and Carrick was never going to get there! It's blatantly not a penalty, so please give it up. No penalty, fact, so let's get back to the original topic of discussion, please.

how often do you see a player win the ball but catch a player, and the ref awards a free kick, in almost every game mate, so no i aint gonna debate it, simply because its a very regular occurence

If you win the ball cleanly and then your momentum takes the player down, it's no foul, and never has been. Basic rules mate, it was not a penalty, never in a trillion years. Trust me...I'm just waiting for Homer to explain this Palacios incident. Hopefully he won't make an immature comment like Fluke.

the palacios incident didnt get any focus because harry made such a fuss about the pen and even our 2nd goal, he probably thinks its ok for one of his players to almost break ronaldos legs

Harry is a horrible crook, you'd never have guessed he was related to Sir Frank Lampard. Why didn't anyone question Harry about last year's Stone-wall penalty Ronaldo was denied in Pompey's route to the FA Cup? :deepthought:

What annoys me is the coverage Liverpool got on Goals on Sunday and MOTD, for a completely average performance, yet United put on a second-half masterclass and the only thing that gets talked about his a penalty incident. Not even a mention of Palacios' horror tackle...

no of course not, but if contact is made which impedes a players progress then its a foul
