How many players nowadays show loyalty to their clubs? Do they owe anything to their clubs or should loyalty not be an issue in fooball?

Discuss.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Loyalty imo is no longer present in football compared to 10 years ago. Money has taken over so much. I watched the DVD i have on United's treble winning season not long ago and it talks about buying Dwight Yorke for a club record 12million or there abouts. 12 million is nothing now in the football world. People can flash their cash and players run to it. People like Giggs, Scholes, Neville - to use United as an example, are a rare breed of footballer now imo. There aren't many up and coming players who show or will show the loyalty they have imo.

But all of them have played for the best team of the last 2 decades in all honesty...

Also, enjoy the season review? Beckham

Yeah i guess. And yeah it's quality...some of our football is so good.

I watch the game by game programme quite often. Beckham was unreal...his crossing and free kick taking at that time was crazy.

Some top top games too that season

Loyalty in players is a trait i hold most highly, it shows they arent just money grabbing jerks and actually care about the fans and the team they represent.

There's so many factors to be considered when you judge a player's loyalty though. They don't stay at a club purely because of the fans and the football side of things. There's many other aspects to their lives that contribute towards whether they want to stay or go. Eg. Family, friends, culture. You can't judge unless you have real insight into their personal lives.

Given was very loyal to Newcastle, and as a reward for that he was allowed to move on when he felt the time was right.

i was thinking of doing a series of topics on football culture and loyalty was one of them.

like most fans i admire loyalty especially at my own club but when i really think about it there should be no loyalty. think about it from the players perspective, if you arent good enough you're out, if injured or injury prone you're out, if the clubs strapped for cash and need moeney you're out.

so where does loyalty come in? yes thats right when the club needs you not when you need the club. in football loyalty goes only one way, all the sacrifice is from the player rarely is it from the club.
