Nicolas Anelka has blasted former club Arsenal's title credentials by labelling them a team who only 'aim for third or fourth place'. The Chelsea striker, who spent two years with the Gunners between 1997 and 1999, also stated that the Blues were a bigger club than their North London rivals and compared the pressure at Stamford Bridge to that of the Bernabeu. "Chelsea are a mega club composed of top players, within which you have to win every game because you are under massive pressure," he said in the Daily Mirror. "You have to win week in, week out. It is different from at Arsenal. There is a context surrounding the club because of the chairman Mr Abramovich that makes people speak about Chelsea more than about Arsenal. "Arsenal are composed of young players, aiming for third or fourth place, but we do not really speak about them for the title. Chelsea are like Real Madrid - the pressure here is huge." However the 30-year-old did praise former manager Arsene Wenger for bringing him to England from Paris St Germain as a raw teenager. "I still enjoy a tremendous relationship with Arsene," he added. "You must respect such a manager for all the things he has done for so many players. "Thanks to him I have got to know England and I am still there despite all the things that have happened throughout my career." |

As much as I want to, right now there is very little to reasonably argue with in that quote. The list of priorities at Arsenal right now looks like this; 1. Stadium Debt 2. Keeping costs down including Transfers and Wages (hence the youth policy) 3. Getting into the Champions League 4. Silverware ("but dont worry if you fall short on this one Arsene, its the top three were concerned about.".....Arsenal Board) |

No, lol, Wenger does not target fourth, he targets first, but the point Anelka makes is that Arsenal's standards have dropped, and they're not nearly as ambitious as Chelsea. |

Anelka is talking about THIS point in THIS season, not in general. Once again the hack who put this together tries his utmost to make sure everyone takes it out of context. All hacks must die. |

Ofcourse Arsenal don't want to target 4th or 3rd. But the position they found themselves in this season meant their first priority was aiming for 4th. |

Well Wenger admitted he took a gamble at the start of the season, and it hasn't paid off. In fact we were doing so badly, we had to break our own transfer record to try and salvage something from the season...but I don't believe we were aiming for anything other than trophies, rather, the gamble didn't pay off, and we didn't begin the season with a strong enough team, either with enough experience, or depth to cope with injuries. Arshavin I think highlights we have learnt our lesson and will do whatever is required to make us stronger for the start of next season. |

Agree that Wenger doesn't target 4th but Chelsea's definition of ambition=spending £100m so no we are not as ambitious in that sense. |

As a club they are far more ambitious too. Second is not an option for a club that has winning engraved into their veins. That was evident in Avram Grant's and Jose Mourinho's sacking, however right you may think each were. |

Veins are there from birth, they don't just randomly grow at stages of your life. Use a different analogy. |

For two years they were winners. Since then they've only won the mickey mouse cup and FA Cup. Not so good considering their epic expenditure. |
