Here are some of the things people have had to say about him over the years:

Zinedine Zidane: "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest of his generation."

Edgar Davids: "I'm not the best, Paul Scholes is. We can all learn from Paul Scholes."

Marcello Lippi: "Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team - that is how highly I have always rated him."

Thierry Henry: "Without any doubt, the best player in the Premiership has to be Paul Scholes. He knows how to do everything, and he is the one who directs the way his team plays. On top of all that, he has indestructible mental strength and he is a genuine competitor."

Sir Alex Ferguson: "Throughout time, when you look at the likes of Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton and George Best, then it's difficult to say where Paul stands because that's a wide panorama of players. But in my time, he would sit in the top six or seven without question."

Cheque's in the post mate :hysterics:

Nowadays he has become sloppier in possession and less assured, and there's not much of an excuse for that because age does not affect that part of a genius' game.

I wish people would watch ever game plyed during 06/07 because people don't realise what a perfect footballer he was during that season. Robotic player, and the most intelligent in possession I've ever seen during that spell.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

So his manager, the one who knows him best, rates him lower than the rest of them  They are pretty good reviews tbh...

Theres a much bigger list than this somewhere of things people have had to say about him. You only have to look at who the reviews come from to see just how special Scholes is/was.

Last January, Sir Alex Ferguson gave evidence in court on behalf of one of his former trainees and listened to the prosecution barrister's list of United's top players.

"You've missed Paul Scholes - and he's my best player," Ferguson chided her.

When Beckham was at Real Madrid, he confirmed that Scholes was the most admired opponent in a dressing room boasting Zinedine Zidane, Luís Figo and Roberto Carlos. And, asked to name the best in a United squad that includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, this is Ferdinand's verdict: 'For me, it's Paul Scholes. He'll do ridiculous things in training like say, "You see that tree over there?" - it'll be 40 yards away - "I'm going to hit it". And he'll do it. Everyone at the club considers him the best.'

OMG that story. What a man. What I love most about him is how humble he is off the pitch, while still having genuine steel (often to his disciplinary detriment!) on the pitch. :worship:
