- It's advantage Manchester United, but don't forget that Arsenal still have to travel to Old Trafford. There's still hope for Liverpool and in a season of surprises another would be, well, no surprise.

- Cesc Fabregas is ruined as a support striker. He doesn't have the pace or power of Steven Gerrard to excel in the role. He's a conductor, not the lead violinist.

- Liverpool have ceased to be dull. They are utterly unrecognisable from the conservative team of early season.

- Arsenal's hopes of progressing to the Champions League final probably depend on the state of a relatively-unknown 21-year-old's knee. Because if Mikel Silvestre, rather than Johan Djourou, continues as Kolo Toure's partner, Arsenal will surely be torn apart by Manchester United. Sir's acquiescence to Silvestre's move south in September may prove to be one of the canniest bits of management in years.

- Yossi Benayoun has a claim to be regarded as the most improved player in the league this year. The Israeli was outstanding against the Gunners. Question is: does he feature in Rafa's first-choice team since his preferred position is the 'Gerrard role' and the Pool manager seems reluctant to use him as a winger?

- Alex Song is equal to the hype F365 has lauded on him in recent weeks.

- Pepe Reina continues to be given an easy ride. Not a single word was uttered in criticism of the Spaniard during last night's coverage after Arshavin's eminently-saveable third goal squirmed under his body.

- Arsene Wenger's stupidity in omitting Arshavin from Arsenal's FA Cup semi-final line-up was even greater than previously appreciated. It says, incidentally, a damning deal about the priorities of the nation's football hacks that they preferred to focus the Arsenal manager's attention almost entirely on the Rafa v Fergie squabble in his press conference on Monday rather than seek an explanation for Wenger's suicide sheet at Wembley.

- 4-4 is fashionable. In the past 18 months or so, English football has served up Liverpool 4 Arsenal 4, Chelsea 4 Liverpool 4, Tottenham 4 Villa 4, Tottenham 4 Chelsea 4 and Arsenal 4 Tottenham 4.

- Liverpool can't stop scoring. Since the middle of March, they've scored four against Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Blackburn Rovers, and Chelsea, plus another five against Aston Villa.

- The braindeads still haven't learnt. When Villa scored their injury-time equaliser against Arsenal on Boxing Day, three defenders were marking four attackers in the box. When Xabi Alonso slung the ball into the box in the 93rd minute last night, four defenders were up against five attackers.

- The peerless Fernando Torres has produced 13 goals from 20 league appearances this term. If he stays fit next season, Liverpool will be tough to beat for the title. If his fitness was guaranteed for all 38 matches, they'd begin 2009/10 as favourites.

- Arshavin is one of an increasingly rare breed: a likable footballer. Not only is he a joy on the pitch, but he seems a nice chap off it too. Rather than sulk after the bonkers decision to omit him on Saturday, he responded in the best possible way by revealing the full extent of his manager's error - and all with a cheeky smile.

- Football still has a very peculiar attitude to offsides. According to Gerrard, Arsenal's first goal was "debatable". The only debate was whether Fabregas was a yard onside or merely level. And there was just a single replay of the closeasthat 'goal' Nicklas Bendtner 'scored'; compare that to the fuss and scrutiny made over Manchester United's penalty shout in their FA Cup semi-final against Everton on Sunday.

- If only Wenger hadn't gone through last summer under the impression that Tomas Rosicky would be returning in September then Arsenal would surely have sought to sign Arshavin six months before they did. If they had, they'd probably still be in the title race.

- Steven Gerrard is unlikely to play again this season. He can't have sat for three hours with his legs that far apart without serious aggravation to his injured groin.

Pretty good, I like it, especially the parts about Reina and Fabregas and Bendtner's goal.

I'd like to see Scholes compare that to Uniteds Players....

Good spot.
Scholes

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

I really think that if he'd been fit for the whole season you may well have run away with it. After January was really where you lost ground, and it seemed as though the loss of Torres for much of that period made your attack almost impotent. Absolutely world class player.

Not a very big claim though, compared to people such as Rooney and Ireland.

I'd call that bitter rather than peculiar.

Winner.

Imho Given is the best GK in the prem but Reina is more than likely 2nd. He is in the top 10 GK in the world too but nowhere near the quality of Buffon.
