Liverpool were top or 2nd for large parts of Aug-Dec last season too Elcule. Honestly if you measure their results in this period in this and last seaosn, I think you'll find there was little or no difference. They beat us sure, we had a man sent-off didn't we. They beat Chelsea sure, didn't they too have a man sent-off?

I'm not discounting these results but all I'm saying is that in the last two months people have been going overboard with Liverpool and how good they are, before two months ago it was the same as last year, "is this is our year" but they talied off last season and haven't this season. That is the difference.

People just look at their recent form and assume they've been playing like that all season and it's simply not true.

And maybe my comment looks harsh. The Liverpool of old were bordering on average, this season they've been good and in that spell of hammering teams in February they were great. But that's only 1 month.

It's like people looking at our recent bad form and saying were a crap team.

They really weren't mate, they were 4th in January and miles off the pace. Vidic got sent off in the 90th min when Utd had already lost, and no, Chelsea didn't get a man sent off.

I agree people have gone a bit overboard, but then again a lot of people are very hopeful that United may well lose the title this year so are wanton to praise Liverpool as much as possible, also a succession of fantastic results - no matter how poor the defences - has helped.

I agree, they haven't played like this all season, no team in the world could do so, but like i said, all i'm saying is that you simply haven't given enough credit to their early season perfromances which have been better than they have in recent seasons, contributed to both by a better team, and Rafa's decision not to rotate as much.

And you are a crap team :bait:

Winner.

So you agree apart from the quote you misinterpreted!

I said Liverpool were top OR 2nd in parts of the period of Aug-Dec 2007 and this is true is it not?

I'm sure Arsenal and Liverpool were 1st and 2nd until we got over our shaky start.

Going to have to disagree with MANYOU here.

The improvement Liverpool have made this season was evident even in December. I began to fear them which is a measure of how well they were doing. They added something extra to the team, a bit more urgency, playing at a higher tempo, with a real sense of willingness to score goals. So many professional performances too.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Yeah, but United traditionally make slow starts, Liverpool and Arsenal were first and second in late September / early October at which point United overtook them, and 4th is not first or second...

I see your points lads, I think they have improved this season, but not hugely. Maybe it all depends on how good you thought they were before. In the poll choices, I think they've gone up ONE notch but they weren't choice 2 last season IMO, although they've been a world class team in Europe for many years now. So if they are now a top PL team it would appear to make sense to vote the first option.

I still think in between 2 and 3 but maybe I'm wrong to think they're closer to the 3rd choice. :deepthought:
