Currently they are within the top 4 best sides in world football.

However, despite being incredibly hungry for success this season, and despite showing massive amounts of desire, a third successive season without silverware looms large.

So what do they need to do to be successful next season? Can this team remain the same and compete on all fronts next season? Will this season's events help them?

What are your thoughts on Liverpool?

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

I would say the top 2 because if im being honest it would be really cruel if they dont win a trophy this season and they have been the best team in the league without a doubt. No offence Man Utd fans but they have been superior than you guys this season but United have managed to stay ahead due to their amazing defence.

3rd one. their defense has been pretty bad recently considering they have their starters. They also rely too much on Torres as their only striker. I dont think they deserve to win the league because they went through too many inconsistent runs of drawing, especially drawing at home. If you are going to win the league you cant do that. In the cups a lot of it is down to luck, so i guess you can say they got unlucky then...

Between 2 and 3, i voted 2.

Been superb for most of the season, and are unlucky with the position they find themselves in, are well positioned to mount another title charge next season provided Torres stays fit and they add more depth and dimensions to the squad.

Winner.

I'd say the 3rd one. I'll be honest from August to January I saw little difference to the Liverpool of the past few seasons, dropping points when they shouldn't, failing to break teams down when they should and no better than Utd or Chelsea have been this, last and the season before. However, I have been impressed with them recently when they started blowing teams away, ourselves included. Since arund this time, Liverpool have not only believed their hype but they've lived up to it but they didn't in the first half of the season.

I really fail to see how anyone could think that. They started well last season don't forget and were the last team to be beaten in the PL but they tailed off and this season has been no different except fo the fact that they have actually continued to look good beyond the turn of the new year.

Very good season for Liverpool not out of the ordinary though. I don't think they were superior to us or Chelsea until very recently, people are just looking at them now and going on like they've been great all season which is a bit strange, had it not been for their recent form, everyone would be voting the 4th option and no-one can deny that.

So 3rd option for me, maybe in between 2nd and 3rd but I'm going for the latter option.

I disagree ManYou just look at their results before Xmas and that kinda says it all really. They have improved so much this season and have been brilliant for most of the season where else Chelsea and Man Utd have been rather so so.

What results Homer? Was it one of the FOUR 0-0's or maybe one of the THREE 1-0's, maybe it's the wins with late goals against City and Wigan? after being in a losing position for most of the match, or was it the defeat to Spurs?

Get a grip, Liverpool have only been great since February, stop kidding yourself.

Stop being jealous and just accept that Liverpool have been better than United this season. They done the double over United and Chelsea and they did not lose to Arsenal so they have done really well against the top teams and the reason why they score late goals is because they have a fighting character about them which never gives up and they fight until the last moment.
