Steve Gerrard will reportedly miss the crucial Barclays Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield because of injury.

According to reports from England, the Liverpool skipper will sit out the Tuesday clash against the in-form Gunner and he may even miss the following match against Hull City on Saturday.

The midfielder is understood to have aggravated an adductor muscle injury he suffered while training at Stamford Bridge before the epic Champions League clash against Chelsea.

A Liverpool spokesperson told reporters: "In the training session before the Champions League game with Chelsea, Steven Gerrard unfortunately aggravated a small strain he had previously suffered in the adductor muscle. A scan has since confirmed our medical team's initial diagnosis and the player is expected to be out for between seven and 10 days."

Liverpool have only been able to pair Gerrard with Fernando Torres for just 11 league games this season. Now with Gerrard's latest injury setback, the Reds' unlikely title challenge looks ever more difficult.

Gerrard has been Liverpool's top-scorer this season with 21 goals in all competition.

Big miss in terms inspiration and leadership, but I think Liverpool can easily rely on Alonso to provide quality v Arsenal. (He's a much better CM IMO).

Would be interesting to see what would happen to Liverpool if Arsenal went ahead, then I think they'd really really miss Gerrard.
