I'm struggling to think of many players that have carved out successful careesr after hitting a high standard of football early on (e.g. 18-21). Examples:

Jose Antonio Reyes
Michael Owen
Quaresma
Denilson (brazilian winger)

The few that I can think of include Luiz Ronaldo, Pele, and possibly Rooney (although he is still v young so time may prove me wrong)

n.b I'm not bracketing Rooney with those 2. He's far better........
Correct. Some players IMO peak at around 22/23. Sounds ridiculous as they haven't matured fully as players but some really get worn out by te time they've reached the peak age of 26-28.

Del Piero is a perfect example athough his goal-scoring exploits in recent years contradict this. He was an animal of a player in the 90's but sort of lost his way at around 26-28 which completely goes against this peak age theory.

Some players are just physically amazing though and will continue to play very well beyond their years. C. Ronaldo is one of these players, he will be still very good when he's in his 30's, he will still be superfast. While it's hugely unlikely IMO that Rooney will end up this way, he will be a shadow of the player he is now when he's 33 .
