Age catches up with everyone, and it can often lead to a player's decline.

Scholes for example, aged 34, is not capable of what he was two years ago. Deco and Ballack have deteriorated a lot at the age of 30/32...

What age would you say certain players are likely to start declining, and on the contrary, what age do certain players start maturing into top players? Xabi Alonso this season is an example.

Is there a set age and can players who go into decline, find their way back out of it?

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Players generally start notably declining at 30 imo. They're usually finished by 34, anybody who plays on after 34 is a very healthy individual.

I'm struggling to think of many players that have carved out successful careesr after hitting a high standard of football early on (e.g. 18-21). Examples:

Jose Antonio Reyes
Michael Owen
Quaresma
Denilson (brazilian winger)

The few that I can think of include Luiz Ronaldo, Pele, and possibly Rooney (although he is still v young so time may prove me wrong)

n.b I'm not bracketing Rooney with those 2. He's far better........

Shevchenko is another that declined with age.

I'm just wondering if there's an example of a player declining, but then reaching a top standard once again, because it seems like, once a decline occurs, it's impossible to get out of.

I thought Drogba was finished 6 months ago but he's come back out of his trough with a bang.

Great example that. Injuries were the main reason for his hampered form it seems though...he's back to his best now.

Michael Owen has declined now that he has lost his pace/hunger

It is natural for players over 30 to decline because their fitness levels goes down
