Are the English clubs over-achievers in the CL?

In 06/07, the semi-final comprised of: United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Milan.
In 07/08, the semi-final comprised of: United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona.
In 08/09, the semi-final comprises of: United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona.
The last 5 seasons has now seen 6 English clubs make the CL final.

Is this a reflection of the top 4's superiority, or have English clubs over-achieved?

Discuss.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Fair reflection of quality. The top 4 in England are the best, end of.

Fair reflection. I don't think England's clubs have the best players in, but the PL's style of football and organisation is too much for other clubs to handle. When looking at clubs that are knocked out by English clubs, it's often the case that the teams are very evenly matched.

Over-acheiving is something that maybe happens once (EG Greece in the Euro's), when it keeps on happening, it can't be classed as over-acheiving. I think one of the main differences is the quality of managers, there's not many, if ANY, managers better then Benitez, Wenger, Hiddink, Mourinho & Ferguson

They don't over-acheive for the reasons KoL stated. But I'm starting to miss the days of Juventus/Milan/Madrid being World beaters. I truly hope that this stage of Anglo-dominance doesn't become a consistent theme in the CL, else we may as well have a Top Four competition every year.

No it is because the english clubs are far superior and the only team who could get in the top 4 are Barcelona which pretty much says it all. No english club has been knocked out in the knockout stages by a foriegn side for 2 years now.

Yeah I'm just saying I miss the days when the competition was more cosmopolitan in its real competition (ie semi finals onwards).

The English league is far superior to any other. An English team would be slated if they didn't make the last 8.

Everything goes through cycles, from the wheather to the economy, football is the same. Right now the dominance of English football in europe is a fair reflection and to be fair they should be bloody grateful! English teams have contested some of the most memorable, exciting games in recent years and its all a far cry from the italian dominationof a few years back where 0-0 scorelines were the norm. We all just accepted the order of things and didnt really worry about it. Now the shoe is on the other foot and Blatter/Platini are probably sharing a tearful hug right now.

But most of the time it's just like watching a Premiership game. Aside from the 4-4 last Tuesday, most Chelsea Liverpool games have been 1-0 or 0-0. I miss the days when Madrid were drawn against Bayern or someone similar. I really hope the Premiership isn't allowed another CL slot any time soon.

I see your point Rolling. I too miss the days when Italian sides were feared, and the likes of Valencia, Bayern and Depor were big threats.

However, it's hard to complain when you witness what Liverpool and Chelsea put on the other night. You can't ask for more than that.

It is a tad boring in a way that it becomes a battle of the English. I just pray to God that Barca dump out Chelsea so we don't have another all English final.
