The Frenchman has accumulated seven major honours during his time as Arsenal manager, but he claims this campaign could turn out to be his greatest yet...

Arsene Wenger's achievements at Arsenal are exemplary when taking into account his operations on a fiscally prudent budget.

The former Grampus Eight boss has guided his side to three Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, a Champions League final, and an "untouchable" season that saw the Gunners accrue 49 consecutive games without loss.

However, Wenger has today declared that the current campaign could turn out to be his "proudest" to date.

His side, boasting a particularly young midfield, have scalped domestic opposition as weighty as Chelsea and Manchester United, while the Frenchman remains in pole position to negotiate a route to the semi-final of the Champions League, and the north Londoners are one game away from an FA Cup final, too.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said, "It was a year when I probably went against the flow of things. But I think this could be the year I am the proudest of because everyone doubted this team, everyone criticised it.

"I was strong, I was very supportive, I always had this belief in them and I knew that it was a difficult period to go through. When you want to produce young talents, you have to stick your neck out at some point and take a few knocks as well.

"One should remember what everyone seems to forget - we play against people who have unlimited funds, they can buy the best players in the world. You produce young talent with your limited funds, but still everyone is asking you to always beat these teams."

In French journal L’Equipe, the 59-year-old continued, "I remember winning at Chelsea this year. When I left the stadium, this bloke came to me at the end and said ‘I am an Arsenal fan, good game, but I don’t think we are going to win the league with such a team!’ I told him: ‘You are not an Arsenal fan.

"'You have just seen some 20-21-year-old kids in midfield beating the likes of Ballack, Lampard, Drogba and Anelka! Haven’t you got anything less negative to say?’

"It is unbelievable that, nowadays, you can’t cheat people on the quality of football but you can manipulate their opinion," he added. "Despite this, the critics I received did not hurt me. The thing which worried me and which was my greatest worry was the influence these critics had on the team.

"No matter what is said, the environment you are in will always influence you. The players open the newspapers to read ‘Disastrous Arsenal’, ‘Arsenal Useless’.

"Keep in mind that my team was very young and that the atmosphere was very negative. Therefore I asked myself the question: how do I reduce this negative impact on the team? You cannot play well if you think you are not good enough.

"I have had my share of criticism and I know that if we lose tomorrow, the critics are going to start all over again.

"But the most important thing is that the team is now on the right path and it has hope," he concluded.

Arsenal host Villarreal in the concluding leg of the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday evening, before tackling Chelsea - also at home - late Saturday afternoon in a Wembley FA Cup semi-final. Three days after that they take on Liverpool at Anfield in a crucial Premier League clash.

He was right though...

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Wenger went on to say "That fan had ridiculous sideburns, he thought he was all that, and as he walked off I shouted rude words at him. He then turned around and said "Oi Wenger go back to Japan". So I turned around and smacked him on the chops, and as he lay flat out on the floor I spat on the back of his head."

He didn't say this season was his proudest, he meant that if they win the CL & FA Cup then it would be his proudest because of the way everybody doubted them.

I don't think it would go down as an equally successful year to the Unbeatables but in it's own way it would be just as special
