I was talking about it at the time. I'm pretty sure that we were on the brink of signing him for 29M.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Yeah United offered £18 million (2 million add ons). And Barca then outbid us with £21 million ( 2 million add ons)...

How does that work out?

Guarentee you it was £23m. Like Zizou said, 21m + Add ons.

Like i said it was in Euros though, so people look at how much it was in Euros (around 32m i think) and then convert it into pounds using today's exchange rate, hence the confusion.

This is why Britain should join the Euro.

Winner.

Either way, he was worth a bit more than 23M

And a bit more than Beckham as well

I cannot believe our first choice was Beckham. I used to watch Ronny on Eurosport at PSG, and he was soooo good on football manager. I loved him before we signed him, and was so pleased when Barcelona (a team who had come 6th in the league) out fought the English Champions for his signature :)

I HATE BARCELONA for that. Altho, inadvertedly it led to our signing of Ronaldo, so, it's all good.

Obvs, altho would Ronaldinho have scored as many goals as Ronaldo did last year in any season? Probably not; it was freakish.

Note: I'm not saying Ronaldo was better.

AC Milan. Having bagged us £17m, and put us back on the map again as a footballing giant.

Nah, judging Ronaldo this early is silly of me, his contribution to United should be judged when he leaves if we're going to compare the two.

Quick question: who is/was better, Messi or Ronaldinho?

Hmm, in terms of effectiveness? Messi. In terms of overall influence on a game, charisma, gaining Barca a global fanbase and likeability, Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho was far more talented too, he has more in his locker than out of this world dribbling skills.

Messi is easily more talented than Dinho for me. Quicker, better close control.

That's my argument exactly about Ronaldo possibly being better than Messi.
