Great team there DaG. I think what Scholes means by truly special player is a stand-out, world beater of a foward. Somebody who could claim to be the greatest player in the world in his hay-day. That doesn't neccaserily mean you can't win it, because Moe doesn't have that player either, but that is an achilles heel
i disagree, my team was never built as a galaticos of world football. i have always set out to create the best TEAM, players that complement each other and bring the best out of each other. my team is far from weak but it isnt quite what i envisioned. was pipped to the post a couple of times and if i had my (modest) way my team would be unbeatable
You have Shevchenko who won the Ballon D'Or, Recoba who was one of the most talented players of his generation - just didn't fulfill it, RVN who's the third best striker picked, Scholes who's - probably - the best CM picked, and Maicon who's the best RB right now.

They all standout.

Winner.

Like i said Moe, it doesn't mean you don't have the best team, but to not have that one player that can change the match at any moment is an achilles heel. Everybody has an achilles heel on this game, no matter how much you all try to deny it

A team jam-packed full of English players is not the answer IMO, you need some true quality in there.
So Owen, Wright, Cole, Dixon, Carragher are not quality? Your a fucking idiot. You are playing Becks RW in a 433. Tells me enough. Your team has only one player who is competent defensively in midfield. You will be raped right through the middle.
The players you have listed are all top players, as expected, but England have always had a team of top quality players. Look at Euro 2004...Owen, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Terry, Cole, Neville and others yet to be picked...how successful are they? How successfully do they play as a unit? As a team?

I am extremely skeptical about an English dominated team. A bit of Brazilian class would not go amiss. Look at the great Italian teams in the 90s...Milan and Juve...they would absolutely dominate a team packed with English players as they proved during that time.

Secondly, I have two Englishmen in the midfield, Beckham and Lampard, but neither are traditionally English players. Beckham was technically phenomenal and Lampard was total class. I cannot say the same for Gerrard, Owen and Wright.
Scholes

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

I don't need to. I have a "perfect" 442. Central defenders who only win the ball, full backs who stay wide and primarily defend, central midfielders who primarily win the ball and cover ground, and strikers who primarily score. Not another team in this competition can boast that. (maybe Moe or Triggle)

No, I must defend my team from the clueless masses.

Seriously, my footballing knowledge is a detriment against most these fans who don't have a clue. They think that a #10 who cannot create is better than a CM who excelled at winning the ball and covering ground. Its laughable in all honesty.

Gerrard can create  And it's not just his job to do so, there is imputus on the widemen and central midfielders at Liverpool to create too.

Your footballing ideologies are seriously detrimental to your outlook on certain players. Get it into your heard...Gerrard of 98-2002 was not a great player.

No, there isn't, hence they play deep in a 4231. Get a grip Scholes, your falling off.
