The Geordies are about to confirm Shearer as their new boss apparently. Do you reckon he can bring back the glory days or do you think he will give them the final nudge into the chasm of relegation? :deepthought:

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

NEWCASTLE boss Alan Shearer is wielding the axe at St James' Park — with Dennis Wise the first casualty.

The Toon legend will move swiftly to get the club in order by removing the unpopular executive director.

Wise, 42, joined the club in January last year for a role in player transfers, scouting and youth development.

But the relationship with the Toon Army turned sour as they dubbed him, along with vice president Tony Jiminez, part of a 'cockney mafia' under club owner Mike Ashley.

Jiminez left Toon last October, while Wise stayed behind to work with new manager Joe Kinnear.

But with Kinnear now recovering from a quadruple heart bypass, Shearer has stepped in to the Newcastle hot seat and instantly rung the changes.

Wise's departure coincides with the appointment of former Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie, who is set to join Shearer's coaching staff.

This will make or break Shearer's entire managerial career now. If he gets relegated with Newcastle, there's no way back. They've plummeted into somewhere they should be nowhere near, and all this with their legendary prodigal son Shearer at the helm. His managerial career will be finished, Newcastle is the job he always wanted, fail that and he'll never be trusted anywhere else.

Succeed here and he could go on to reach the top. Once people see how well he can do at a relegation battling club, they will take note. His ability to inspire players and control a dressing room will be noted by clubs at the highest level. He could easily be in the frame for the Man Utd job in a few years time should he do well here.

So much pressure on the Newcastle legend here...

i actually think if he gets relegated he will still be a legend anyway and still be welcome in the geordie faithful cause there all resigned to the fate of relegation so its there last hope of survival so if he pulls it off he will be more admired and his legend status will be immune forever

I don't think he'll be a great manager, but i think they'll stay up, hopefully Stoke and Pompey will never win again. Shearer came across really well in his press conference though, quietly determined i'd say.

Winner.
