I've constructed a table based on; Money spent, average league position (01-03) previous to the figures in hand, and then an average league position over the 5 years period (03-08) in which the figures describe, which excludes last summer's spending figures :)

Quote:

Money spent ----- League position 01-03 ----- Average 03-08
1. Chelsea ------------------ 5 ---------------------------------- 1.5
2. Liverpool --------------- 3.5 -------------------------------- 4
3. Man United ------------- 2 ---------------------------------- 2
4. Spurs -------------------- 9.5 -------------------------------- 9
5. Newcastle ---------------3.5 -------------------------------- 10
6. Villa --------------------- 12 -------------------------------- 10
7. Portsmouth ------------ 20 --------------------------------- 12.5
8. Boro --------------------- 11.5 ------------------------------- 14
9. Sunderland ------------- 18.5 ------------------------------ 19
10. Birmingham ----------16.5 ------------------------------- 16
11. Everton ---------------- 11 -------------------------------- 8.5
12. City -------------------- 14 --------------------------------- 12.5
13. Bolton ----------------16.5 -------------------------------- 9
14. Derby ----------------- 19.5 ------------------------------- 20
15. West Ham ------------ 13 ---------------------------------- 15
16. Fulham ----------------13.5 -------------------------------- 13.5
17. Reading -------------- 20 ---------------------------------- 17
18. Arsenal --------------- 1.5 --------------------------------- 3
19. Wigan ---------------- 20 ----------------------------------- 16
20. Blackburn ------------ 8 ------------------------------------ 10.5

What do you make of the stats? Which are most and least impressive? How will they change in coming seasons?

Discuss.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

The stats basically underline what a genius Arsene Wenger is, and that David Moyes is very good too. Gary Megson has made some brilliant moves too.

As for the top of the list, SAF knows how to spend money in the correct fashion, whereas Spurs, Liverpool, and Newcastle waste a lot of money on shit players...

Megson? :hysterics:

His name is Sam Allardyce, an absolute maestro in the transfer market

Indeed it does in many ways show what a genius Wenger is, but remember he made a lot of money from the likes of Henry and A.Cole, and in those years, you've gone from Invincibles to Invisibles and there's no excuse for that.

Newcastle's demise is apalling, but look at Chelsea's spending in 03 - 157M, disgraceful.

Arsenal are just amazing they are always one of the lowest spenders and yet are always at the top end of the table

Funnily enough, Liverpool have spent more in the past 5 years, still Rafa maintains with a serious face that his side does not have the strength in depth to compete with United. Whose fault is that ?

Chelsea have spent an appalling sum of money. but at least they have spent it well. Let's be honest, you'd rather be Chelsea than Spurs or Newcastle, who have been absolute shockers with their mindless signings.

I think it actually underlines what a mug Wenger is.

It demonstrates that if he used his fantastic eye for talent and combined that with actually spending some money then you wouldn't have gone down by 1.5 league position.

Winner.

What these stats don't show is what a genius Moyes is. Before he came in they were finishing 17th, 16th, 15th etc., scraping relegation...
