An Arsenal fan has been stabbed in the leg after being attacked by a group of Roma ultras as he made his way to the Olimpico on Wednesday night.

The Guardian reports a group of Roma fans ambushed a mini bus taking Arsenal fans to the match against the Giallorossi at around 19:00 last night.

It is believed the group of attackers began kicking the vehicle before smashing windows with stones and other objects. It is not clear as to whether the injured fan was stabbed by a Roma thug or injured by broken glass after windows were smashed.

A spokesman for the British embassy told the Guardian, "Roma fans entered the bus and the Arsenal fan was either stabbed or injured by broken glass when a window of the minibus was smashed."

The police were quick to arrive on the scene and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident. The rest of the Arsenal group were escorted by the authorities and it is believed there were no further injuries to the fans.

The stabbed fan was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries. He was later released and was able to watch the game in the stadium.

It is believed another fight took place involving other Arsenal and Roma supporters. Two English fans suffered various injuries.

Typical.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

What is worrying is the fact of how well planned it was they knew what route the bus would take and where there would be no police, they threw a flare on inside the bus smashed the windows with bottles and tried to storm it. The fan who got stabbed was one of those at the front defending the stairs, they stopped the italians getting on god knows what would have happened had they done

Eye witness account from someone on that bus said this is what happened...

Quote:

The bus did not take a wrong turn. It got to the stadium under escort, drove around to the concourse where the coaches enter the stadium but for some reason didn't go in (wasn't allowed he doesn't know the reason why) It then continued around the stadium doing a 360 of the ground until they ended up where they begun. At this point a car pulled up and stopped in front of the coach. The driver waited for it to move, at which point 400-500 Roma fans surrounded the bus. The windscreen was smashed and a lit flare thrown in, injuring the driver and burning him, he opened the door partly to avoid being hit again and because the front of the bus filled with smoke. Many of the Roma fans outside were carrying metal bars smashing side windows throwing in more flares. The bus quickly filled with smoke and ppl's hair and clothes were catching fire from the flares. They even threw in those loud banger type things they were letting off in the stadium (pretty sure everyone heard those during the match). During the attack, a guy got knifed in his left thigh. The brother of the guy who got knifed grabbed the hammer/axe you find in coaches used to smash windows in case of a fire and started using it to fend off the Roma fans trying to get into the coach. Nobody from the bus knows when and where their escort to the ground disappeared to.

Disgusting. You'd think they'd learn after that Policemen was murdered.

I hope they get kicked out of the competition next season. From the sounds of it, it was pretty lucky nobody was killed

They were all carrying knives or weapons of some description apparently, had they managed to board the couch i think we could be talking about 2 or 3 deaths

The roma fans have been like this for years, in 1984 after the european cup final they attacked a family of liverpool fans nearly killing a 7 year old boy

Funny you should say that, what happened in 84 lead directly to what happened at heysel the following year.

In england firms only fight other firms they don't attack normal fans, what the roma ultras did that night disgusted the english firms not just liverpools. When liverpool faced juventus the following year hooligans from united, chelsea, millwall, forest, spurs amongst others were in hysel with the intention of exacting revenge on the italians
