Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for January.

The Red Devils came through the month with a 100 per cent record and without conceding a single goal.

January also saw United break the Premier League record for consecutive clean sheets when they secured their 11th against West Brom at The Hawthorns.

United's run has seen them climb to the top of the table, where they now find themselves two points clear of second place Liverpool with a game in hand.

The reigning champions began the month with a comprehensive 3-0 win at home to Chelsea before dispatching Wigan three days later, thanks to a solitary Wayne Rooney goal.

United then managed their second successive 1-0 win when a late Dimitar Berbatov header was enough to see off Bolton at The Reebok.

A 5-0 thumping of bottom-of-the-table West Brom followed, with Berbatov, Carlos Tevez, Nemanja Vidic and a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo securing the victory.

Finally a Ronaldo penalty gave Ferguson's men their third 1-0 win of the month when they overcame a stubborn Everton side at Old Trafford.

Vidic won Player of the Month.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Van Persie should have been player of the month hands down...

He was definitely forward of the month. But to be fair Vidic is immense and it's nice to see a defender win it for once.

Berbatov had an amazing month as well and lets not forget Carlton Cole. Vidic has been one of the only main stays in our defence this month though and made sure we didnt conced so hes a good enough pick for player of the month

Why does that matter Scholesy? His best performances came in the PL.

Two of his goals came in the FA Cup so that leaves one PL goal right? Against Everton? He played well in the other games granted, getting two assists (corners don't count) at Hull etc...

Berbatov netted a last minute winner at Bolton, scored and assisted against Chelsea and scored at the Hawthornes  He was my pick trying to avoid bias :)

Van Persie carried us through the month big style, scoring or assisting every goal. Had to do everything on his todd. Berbatov is surrounded by confident players who are in top form.

That shouldn't really make a difference. Some people like being the star man surrounded by hopelessness; it makes them perform better knowing they're comfortably the best player on the pitch.

Van Persie>Berbatov
According to you Arsenal>United, so how come your 5th and we are top? Van Persie is a tremendous player but he is yet to do it over an entire season, berbatov has done it through an entire season

Fergie winning it 22 times would be impressive if he had not been managing for 60 years

Seeing as it's only been going since august 1993, it's a hell of an achievement theres only 1 season where he hasn't won it at least once. Wenger is 2nd on the list of most awards with 10
