Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard faces three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a torn hamstring.

Gerrard was forced off early on in Wednesday's FA Cup relay defeat at Everton after picking up a hamstring problem.

Scans have confirmed Gerrard has suffered a tear to his left hamstring which is likely to rule him out of action for up to three weeks.

It means Gerrard will miss this weekend's trip to Portsmouth as well as England's friendly with Spain next week.

The news is a massive blow to Liverpool's title challenge as their talisman will also miss the home clash with Manchester City on 22nd February and possibly the UEFA Champions League tie with Real Madrid three days later.

A club spokesman told Liverpool's official website: "A scan today has confirmed a tear in the hamstring of Steven's left leg. He will be out of action for about three weeks."

Torres will be less effective and therefore Liverpool are considerably weaker, they'll be dropping more points now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool drew all of those games.

Just in time to miss the England friendly. How coincidental. If Liverpool drop many more points they'll be getting points taken away from them lol. They draw so many games. Gerrard won't be that big a loss, just means Masch and Alonso will both start. They'll miss him against Madrid though and will probably get stuffed 2/3-0

They will lose to Real Madrid.
As soon as the draw came out I said Real Madrid will win this tie and I am sticking by it.

This is Pompey's chance to beat them...Alonso, Gerrard, both out...

Their form can't get much worse than it is now so it's the Madrid game he'll be the biggest loss for...he'll probably recover in time though.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Wait, Alonso is out aswell?!

Liverpool will definetely not win all 3 of those PL games, I thought the Pompey game looked their best chance but now I can see a draw.

If the City game was at home they would have a good chance.

How long is Alonso out for?

Susspended I think...he'd be knackered anyway like most of their team after last night.

They have managed the odd decent result without him playing, but more often than not he either creates or capitalises on chances more than any other player in the squad. This could see them slip down the table a little, and definately reduce their chances of getting past Real Madrid in the CL! It could mark the end of Liverpool's season in terms of winning trophies.

See how influentual he was in Sunday's game against Chelsea for proof of his importance.

Now ask yourself the question again, giving a non-biased answer. Could Villa move up to 2nd?
