Bixente Lizarazu... World cup winner, Euro 2000 winner, Champions League winner, Bundesliga winner.... And now I've not heard anything about him since he retired in 2005. Where is he??? |

Dugarry's former team-mate Bixente Lizarazu was also back in the headlines: on the day that fellow full-back Willy Sagnol sadly quit the game for good, Lizarazu was winning gold in the Brazilian Jujitsu European Open in Lisbon. "When I saw the other competitors on Friday with their shaved heads and cauliflower ears, they all looked like killers, and I said to myself, 'What the hell are you doing?'" he said after dispatching two Italians and an Englishman in the Under-76kg category, 35-40 age group http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/feb/03/ben-lyttleton-lique-1-lyon-saint-etienne |

Yeah I've seen Mackay recently too, he's a distant shadow of his former self. Do you remember his Bayern striker partner...Geovanni Elber. Not heard anything from him for a while. |

Elber was class around 99, really feared coming up against him in the group stages that year. Remember the white jersey Bayern had around that time with a blue and red strip going down one side, one of the nicest jerseys ever IMO. |

They were an incredibly resilient team, like Juventus they were one of those teams that seemed unbeatable. |

Basler was on the squad list as I remember but I cut it down as he was right in the reserves lol. Santa Cruz and Hargreaves in there too lol. Jardel was immense, golden shoe two years running and got 42 goals one season if I remember rightly? I remember he got fat and lost form, then went to Bolton and failed, then I seem to remember him going to the middle east, like Qatar or somewhere like that. Now he probably works at McDonalds... |

Mario Basler scored in the final v Utd don't forget. I think he and Effenberg were a tad tempremental. Oh yeah I forgot Jardel was at Bolton, I just remember he ended up at Sporting a few years after his glory days. |

Jardel - Sporting club de Portugal - 2001/02. Apps 30, goals 42. What a record, even in the Portuguese league. |
