Arshavin has been one of the most long-winded signings that I can recall.

However, with recent performances, I see we are lacking a cutting edge, the 1-0 or 1-1 end results are testemant to that, especially against physical teams who park the bus.

Wenger must be aware we are insufficient defensively...however, our style under his reign has always showed more focus on attack and more goals.

Taking these aspects/facets of Arsenal's gameplan into account, I cam see why Arshavin was for quite a long time a target of focus for the club.

The fact that Usmanov owns the company that owns Zenit, the fact that 25% of Arsenal is own by Usmanov, the fact that Usmanov wanted Russia's star player...YES star player, to join Arsenal...and the fact I work for the investment side, allbeit IT for the world's larget bank, having Securities Institute qualifications (could be a trader in fx/futures/equities etc) and a business tuned mind, I knew it was:

a) business sense for Arshavin to come to Arsenal

b) practical sense in terms of having an attacking player not afraid to cut through defenses.

c) raising the profile of Russian players in Western Europe

d) Arshavin does appear...according to ex Ajax (better than 3 of the top 4 Prem teams in Europe) Advocaat, to be stunning as a technical player, excatly what Arsenal need.

Funny how the majority of who gives a fvck comments come from rival clubs...not really, rather kind of obvious, however, although Arsenal still lack defensive qualities, we do appear to need his talents.

Thanks for listening, and as I said all along, we would sign him :D

Arsenal are very like Atletico Madrid in constantly signing great attacking players to compensate for that fact that the defence really needs looking at.

good signing but im still wondering why Wenger didnt buy a DM or a CB? Last season you had 3 defensive midfielders and now Arsenal have none.

AHHHH, another Arshavin thread!

You only made it so you could boast about your job :bait:

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Watch our defense improve with this signing. Attack is the best form of defense in football...

Ype, I agree, we do need to focus defensively, but considering the fact we have lacked that finishing touch upfront, I can see the logic, from both a tactical angle, and from a business perspective.

Arsenal have struggled, it's clear for all to see, and we are not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination, however, our gameplan remains the same, to win by scoring more goals...potentially flawed, but the fact this is a huge signing shows the gameplan remains the same...and I have to go along with it!

Arsenal will now be attacking relentlessly for 90mins will they? He isn't going to improve the defence.

Though it does help to have a good defence just in case...

Yes, but Barca this season underlines my point entirely. Puyol, Alves and Pique are hardly world beating defenders.

Great point...except against teams who are masters of counter-attacking...not many of them though...

Nonetheless, he will cut through defenses and score for us...and being a ruskie he's sure used to this kind of weather lol!

Good man for leaving Marquez off that list

Yeah, but we've still shipped a fair few goals, 8 in the CL! I'm never comfortable with us winning 1-0, i'm really hoping our CB's will click at some point. The signing of Asenjo in the summer will help a lot if we start him in goal.
