DaG thinks if you get 11 good passers, Arsenal will just pass the ball around with ease and score at will and with all due respect to DaG as he knows his stuff, that isn't ever going to work in a league that prides itself in being the most physical in Europe.

I've said it before but teams must love coming up against that midfield of Arsenal's, two skinny kids tying to out fight a bunch of seasoned pros. When they face Chelsea, Liverpool or Utd they know they'll be in a battle against players like Essien, Mascherano, Gerrard, Fletcher etc.. but seriously they must be rubbing their hands together when they look at Denilson and Cesc standing out there with gloves on..

Indeed, you need a balance in your team and United have got that.

Just look at how we played last night. You've got Tevez and Park who run all day long, pressure defenders, dispossess and mix it. Then you've Carrick who although is a good footballer, is brilliant at breaking up play and making tackles. That's three of the front six who gave us such an edge and you can see the conviction in our play.

Arsenal may be full of talent but if they ever want to get back to playing liquid football, they must add some steel and conviction to compliment the silk. Just watch their game at Villa Park for evidence of this.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

That's exactly what I'm saying Homer, the likes of Wigan and Stoke go to SB and OT knowing they're in a battle, when they play Arsenal seriously they're looking at two kids in front of them and they couldn't be further from being intimidated. So they have the belief and when they take it to the Arsenal midfield, Denilson and Co. have no answer.

If I was Arsene Wenger I would try and get Sulley Muntari in the summer because every great team in football history has had a ball winner who helps out the defence.

Diaby and Song do though. They have took it to the opposition in a surprising manner recently. Nice to us kicking the opponents more than they do us. Denilson is gradually getting more physical but has simply not got the natural strength to really mix it up and come out on top.

Scholes the balance in our team is near perfect IMO, I'm not exaggerating, fair enough it's yet to really blossom up front and at times the link between mid/att isn't enough but they way our CM allows the rest of the team to go forward, particularly our full-backs and then as you say we have Park and Tevez who between them must do the work of 3 men. It's a great balance.

Arsenal have literally no protection for their defence and IMO Wenger's system contains a few standout flaws.

United are undeniably a more consistent and well rounded team than Arsenal at the moment, but don't be so quick to write us off. There's still a lot in the tank, and players progressing nicely.

Trigglebeef, I think Arsenal's passing and movement is really up in the top bracket, it's out of this world at times it really is, now with all this fantastic movement you see players popping up all over the pitch which means the formation and system Wenger plays is fairly loose to begin with.

Song for example is someone who I seen play very well in CB but he has good ball skills so he could be deployed in a defensive role in the midfield.

I see no reason why Arsenal can't play a loose 4-5-1 with Song doing the dirty work and say Cesc and Arshavin offering the punch from midfield to attack . Then Walcott, RvP and Adebayor as the front 3 who rotate during the game.

Your defensive midfielder does not need to be a truly expansive passer, just needs to have the ability to facilitate attacking moves- namely he has to be able to pass to a better player and Flamini is perfectly capable of doing this; a midfield of Denilson and Fabregas is destined to fail because, well, its shit.

Homer, when did I ever say we didn't need a ball winner? Don't twist my words.

Both central midfielders should share defensive and attacking duties. That is how you play an effective 442...

DaG are you having a bloody laugh here or what, nobody is saying you need a DM in that little role you see on Football Manager, any mention of DM and you just assume we're talking about the Makelele role and also you assume DM and 4-5-1 go hand in hand and now this thread is going around in circles.

We are saying you need a MIDFIELDER who has DEFENSIVE attributes because DENILSON doesn't have them. How do you fail to realise this?

That is absolute rubbish and I can think of an example of a 4-4-2 where this isn't true straight away, Man utd, Keane and Scholes.
