DaG, Denilson doesn't cover enough ground to partner Cesc. He's a good player, but we need someone who is biting at every opposition tosser who has the ball in midfield. And then can get involved in attack as well. Vieira did it, Flamini did it, Denilson doesn't do it, Song doesn't really do it, and Diaby can do it for about 30 minutes before he's fucked and gets lazy.

Denilson shouldn't have to cover all the ground, Cesc must do his share. And Denilson has far more in terms of passing than Flamini...

They were all box to box CMs, with Vieira being the definition of box to box midfielder. The guy was an absolute tornado. Not only was he very mobile and have great defensive instincts, but he was great going forward to. The guy would win the ball high up the pitch, drive through the midfield, and play a pass that would lead to a goal. He created more goals in a prime season than the likes of Xavi/Cesc in 3 seasons. He was a walking tornado and did much more than simply sit infront of the back 4...

Being a box to box midfielder does not stop Viera from being a predominately defensive midfielder. Although he was a good creator and a good passer of the ball his strengths were defensive rather than offensive. To be a defensive midfielder is not to simply hold the fort, that would be a holding midfielder. Say what you like but there is not factual basis in your claim that Wenger has never used a defensive midfielder, none what so ever. Keane was a box to box midfielder, but his strength was in his defensive qualities, just like Viera.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Disagree with this. Flamini is an excellent passer of the ball.

Which is the problem that certain Arsenal fans fail to grasp- the example of Real Madrid should serve them well, they sold Makalele and went downhill immediately.

he thinks you can win games by just passing a lot and keeping the ball, all very good for the harlem globetrotters but the fact is the opposition will,at some point get the ball and at present arsenal do not have the players to consistantly win the ball back in midfield.denilson is just a poor version of fabregas.

Disagree with this. Flamini is an excellent passer of the ball.

Flamini is nowhere near as good a passer. Denilson can actually facilitate attacking play, something Flamini cannot do...

Your defensive midfielder does not need to be a truly expansive passer, just needs to have the ability to facilitate attacking moves- namely he has to be able to pass to a better player and Flamini is perfectly capable of doing this; a midfield of Denilson and Fabregas is destined to fail because, well, its shit.

Jesus you're quick to forget just how good Flamini was last season. Not only did he break up play superbly, but he was in the top 5 in the prem as far as his passing stats go as well. He was involved in some brilliant attacking moves, and had a subliminal understanding with Hleb and Cesc. I won't hear any other, he was our best player last season.

You're wrong as well Seven. Denilson is improving and although he and Cesc will probably never be as good a partnership as Cesc and Flamini, it's far from a shit partnership.
