Casc Fabregas was handed the Arsenal captaincy recently after William Gallas shamed himself in the press, hinting at a dressing room rift instigated by a 25-year-old troublemaker, thought to be Dutch hitman Robin van Persie (who denies the allegation).

The last thing the 21-year-old Spaniard would want to do, then, would be to become embroiled in another tabloid frenzy.

However, that's what happened when he admitted his love for Serie A giants Milan, fuelling rumours that he wanted to bolt to San Siro. He was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta that he "would undoubtedly pick the Rossoneri" if his Emirates career went belly-up.

Now, the Gunners have published a short statement from the mouth of their new skipper, wherein he plays down his Milan desire.

He told Arsenal's official website: "It is true that I said I admire Milan for their rich history and the way they play football, but that is as far as the story goes.

"I am honoured to be wearing the captain’s armband for Arsenal and I am 100 per cent committed to this club. My future is here."

In any case, it could be wise for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to gag his young side for a time, lest they talk their way into any more hot water.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Umm, why would we be worried? He rubbished reports they same day they came out, as he has done 3 or 4 times this year already.

At the beginning of the season I thought he would go because I didn't see the passion when he was playing. But in the last few weeks he has looked proper up for it, and I think he will cherish wearing the armband...

Not that often no or he barely starts anyway.

I think whether there is truth in this or not, Cesc is better of staying at Arsenal and helping them win trophies again. I'm no expert but I think he would leave with a sense of failure which can't be good.

He is captain now and has a chance to prove himself in a different light, which should be more important to him than any supposed dream of playing for this or that club.

Rumours that he might come back but think it is just that - rumours.

Feel our season might have been a bit different if he had stayed, we were
more organised in midfield. If he is sitting on the bench now, well what a
waste, but not many leave Arsenal and go onto glory, maybe Ashley Cole
with Chelsea but even Thierry Henry has not faredso well since leaving.

Players who leave Arsenal always seem to go downhill.

Maybe it's because they all leave with the fragile little minds they began with, Arsene clearly doesn't teach them the neccesary mental skills required to play football at the top, they do leave with great ability though.

There are no morals in football anymore when it comes to clubs poaching
other teams players. Someone starts to shine for a team and its 'Lets
get him' Its ruthless and getting worse. Contracts seem to be worthless
and agents working all the time for the best deals.

We may keep Cesc we may not. What worries me though, is that every
time Wenger brings a new player along, they could get snaffled too.

Winner.

Precisely. Lets be honest here, if Arsenal fail to win the CL or EPL this year they'll win neither for at least 5 years. Is Cesc seriously going to stick around and entertain mediocrity? He's not a fool and will no doubt want something to show for his talent. He will be gone by the start of the 10/11 season.
