The Spanish broadcaster, Cadena Ser, announced yesterday that Iker Casillas had received a written offer from Manchester City, via an Arab intermediary and presented to the player’s agent, Luis Garcia Abad. Cadena Ser were very well informed, with an accurate account of many of the details, and the agent has admitted that he has received a written offer, although he has not yet shown any documentation to anyone else. Apparently, there were two offers, with the second meeting the player’s € 150m buy-out clause at Real Madrid and offering Casillas around €13m a year salary. Abad even contacted Flavio Briatore to check whether the intermediary had any credentials and he was told that he did. According to sources, Casillas did have a meeting in which the offer was discussed. However, the player turned down the approach, believing that the time is not yet right and suggesting that City would need to be a Champions League club with bigger players before a move would appeal. I have personally spoken with Garry Cook this morning and we have published a statement from the City executive chairman here on the website. In the meantime, Manchester City have completely denied the Casillas story: maintaining that there are no Arab intermediaries authorised to negotiate on behalf of the club and that all business will be conducted through Mark Hughes and Cook, with perhaps the collaboration of a completely trusted, English, friend of the Abu Dhabi owners who is well known to the club. As we have discussed before on GuillemBalague.com, the fact that there appears to be so much money associated with Manchester City has been seen by many as an opportunity to make a quick profit. Consequently, there are individuals out there who are trying to do deals with players, big players, in world football in the hope that once they get a positive response they can then approach Manchester City and broker a deal after already having obtained the player’s consent. However, Manchester City are not falling for it and are very clear that they wish to conduct their own negotiations and stick to the targets that they have identified: with Cook, Hughes and their assistants having already drawn up the list of signings for the coming winter transfer window. I do believe that recent reports that Manchester City had made a bid for Gianluigi Buffon are genuine and that the Italian keeper is a target, however, I have been told that, at the moment, the player has said ‘no’ to a move to Eastlands. The other big rumour circulating within football circles is that Kaka is seriously considering the offer from Manchester City. I can add that, after having talked to reliable sources in Milan, I do believe that this is the case and have been specifically told that as far as Kaka is concerned, a move to City “is a distinct possibility.” However, before any deal can take place, there remains a fair bit of work to be done. Kaka has several representatives involved in his financial affairs, but the most important and influential agent is considered to be his father – with whom Manchester City have said that they have not yet spoken with. Were Kaka to join the club, the move would shake up the transfer market completely and would unequivocally signal the arrival of Manchester City as a major force in world football – while the statement of intent would also make many of those other high profile targets suddenly seem more achievable. |

You should tell Fergie that too then 'cos you seemingly spend at least 50 million per year on players. |

pathetic amounts of money being offered imo and unless its purely for cash no world class player with a shred of self respect will join city(currently 15th in the league) |

Not saying you bought the league but you can't complain about clubs paying a lot for players when you've spent hundreds of millions in the last few years. |

Don't get me wrong, fans like yourself deserve success but it's your owner's disregard for the game we all love that annoys me. Like many have said, a transfer and wages cap needs to be installed for the good of the game. If I had infinite amounts of money and bought a football club, I would at least be moral about it. Offering over 100M for a keeper is plain silly. Where's the satisfaction in paying extortionate prices for 11 different players. He should be playing football manager instead to occupy his time. Abramovich, as much as I hate him, seems to be sensible about it...unless he's tight

And an 80m bid for Kaka rejected in the summer apparently. Difference being Chelsea are a small time club and struggle to bring in world class stars. |
