I simply can't believe Ronaldo. First he says he is pushed, then he says it's a whistle he heard. Half of our team was saying push and Ronaldo was switching between push and whistle, which no doubt swayed the refs decision.

If you were the ref and Ronaldo pleaded it was a push and then a whistle, who in their right miond would believe him in all honesty, it has lie written all over it.

When did he say he was pushed?

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

The best way to lie about the situation is to pretend you had a fly in your eye.

As soon as the incident happened he turned around and said push, after he soon realised he wasn't pushed and that everyone was saying handball he suddenly started saying he heard a whistle, obviously he didn't inform Rio of this decision as he was all over the ref claming a push.

A world class player with the ball travelling towards his HEAD, why didn't he head it? I have seen him head far stronger crosses (Roma CL) I think he just had a moment of madness.

If you check again, it's Ferdinand who says it was a push, and Ronaldo also points to where Richards is suggesting it was a push on Richards and it should be a freekick.

Well maybe Ronaldo said a push on Richards. The fact of the matter is he first said push and then he said whistle. It's IRRELEVENT who he said got pushed.

Does the fact Richards got pushed mean you can handle the ball? No Does the fact you thought you heard a whistle mean you can handle it? No.

So Ronaldo fucked up, you just don't handle the ball that blatantly and get away with it.

Why in the world would Ronaldo be claiming a free kick for City anyways? Unless he was tryiong to make a POOR excuse for handling the ball.

The first thing Ronaldo does is make a Whistle signal to the ref, not Saying a push, I think it's safe to say everyone knows he shouldn't have handled the ball but if you read what's been said he was convinced he heard a whistle, so in his mind he done the right thing by not continuing play.

Why would he deny himself a clear goal scoring opportunity by a hand-ball?

There's noises in every game and every player is supposed to be able to tell the difference between all those noises and the one noise that actually matters to them, the referee's whistle.

Ronaldo made a silly mistake, everyone watching and listening couldn't hear a whistle like a refs whistle. On Sky they played the sound of that incident and the best i could hear is a verrry vague scream which didn't sound anything like a refs whistle.

If players just handled the ball after every noise they heard they might as well be playing handball, but not everyone does what Ronaldo did on saturday which was a really careless thing to do.

He was on a yellow card so he should know not to give Webb ANY reason to give him another yellow.

Exactly, He thought he heard a whistle so he stopped play. Mistakes are made, United won the game, he wasn't going to play in the cup anyway, No harm done.

No no you don't understand, but your observation makes more sense now.

Richards was pushed (as the picture shows) and he thought the referee blew up for it, so the two come hand in hand. That's probably what he was signalling.

Obviously he shouldn't have assumed but he must've felt sure the whistle went. Ref should've used common sense there are not booked him...deliberate handball is only a yellow if it is unsporting behaviour - it makes no sense if that's not the rule.

In hindsight it may look silly, but give Ronaldo his due, he never risks getting sent off, unlike idiots Rooney and Tevez.
